[Mk2] [Turbo] Something happened.....

Post by Ironmind »

Was accelerating hard in 2nd gear and the car lurched as if I had taken my foot off the loud pedal. eased off then everything was ok..

First thought was dirt in the fuel but I always use Vpower + CVL turbo.

Could it be the beginning of something serious?

fuel cut maybe ? did the CEL light come on ?

TBH, you probably don't need to use the octane booster with v-power, it's around 98-99 RON anyway, so pretty similar to the fuel japs use.

Have you driven through any puddles recently?

What you describe sounds similar to a mates scooby that got some moisture into the intake.

I'm not a techie, but he said it was something to do with the moisture confusing the air flow meter.

Rev? Mods?

rev3, apexi intake, avcr, decat, apexi gt exhaust

it has been raining pretty heavyily but it got a rain guard over the intake

fuel cut

it wasnt at the red line maybe only 4-5k revs. also when dynod it was running mega rich on high boost which it wasnt - could it still be fuel cut?

If you get Fuel cut then every time the ECU detects any boost it will cut again. This will happen until you turn off the engine. you should check the error codes on the ECU. Quick search should give you instructions if you dont know.

If you were on boost and hit fuel cut you will have known it was fuel cut........ first time i ever hit it i nearly went through the windscreen.

If its only done it the once and all is fine now i wouldnt worry to much.... it was probably just having a moan.

I get this myself, it happens rarely but when i does it is concerning to say the least. Happened a couple of days ago, foot to the floor in 2nd just as the boost starts to peak the car seems to back off. Almost as if the engine is suddenly starved of air or fuel for a few seconds, ease off the throttle for while then its fine. What boost are you running? I'm at 0.9bar, I think fuel cut is at 1bar.

Did you notice if the AVCR showed peak boost over 18psi ? think that's about when fuel cut happens on rev 3. That'd be about 1.2/1.3 bar on the display.

3 settings A, B and OFF. B is 16psi and A is lower. I was in A. Cant see the avcr when im driving by myself - its in the middle compartment.

Ive got a Apexi PFC to be fitted/mapped - will that sort it out without upgading fueling etc
