[Mk2] [Turbo] Droplinks (rears on front with coilovers any problems)

Post by DavidM »

Just fitted Apexi N1 coilovers to my car which came with droplinks. Only problem being the droplinks were stock Toyota parts and the fronts are way too long.
When fitted the ARB is only about 6-8mm away from the lower arm when the car is jacked up.
As soon as the suspension settles say 10 miles of driving the knocking of the ARB on the lower arm (?) becomes more or less continuous.
Comparing my old black Bilstein shocks with my Apexi's the mounting point on both is fixed a certain distance away from the steering knuckle (main hub) bolts (roughly 130mm on Bilsteins and about 100mm on Apexi a difference of a little over 30mm). So if I use the spare set of rear Toyota droplinks on the front that are about 50mm shorter than the original Toyota front droplinks am I going to be doing any damage?
I've stuck the rears on the front and turned the wheels lock to lock and they appear to function okay.
The same measurement discrepancy is present on the rears also but the original rear droplinks seem to do there job as their is nothing for them to knock on.
Any advice would be appreciated.

as long as the droplink/ arb operation doesn't hinder anything elkse in the steering/suspension at the extremes of suspension travel and shock movement then you shouldn't have a problem .
i think the optimum is to have the arb level with the car at its operating height ,but a few mm up or down shouldn't matter too much
