I think part of the reason for all the delays with this game is because since they started working on it games have moved on, graphics have moved on, and what gamers expect has moved on. Visable damage is an absolute must IMHO in a car game. For the future defomable tracks as well!

I was under the impression that the manufacturers wouldnt allow it?

Will you be able to customise the paint, and styling of the car other than some wheels and a GT wing like in GT4?

I remember this being discussed years ago in the Amiga/SNES days. Rage Software & US Gold were working on Power Drive using liscenced cars and intended on allowing you to smash the cars up but as soon as the manufacturers got wind of they said nooooooooooo!!!

Something to do with portraying road cars as being unsafe or similar b0ll0x along those lines (i did originally read it mid 90's) but for Rally, Touring, F1 etc it doesn't count and thats why games like Burnout don't use real cars.

Deforming tracks would be great, I was impressed to see the barriers crumple on Colin McRae's DiRT but some elite crack squad of builders and track officials would amazing replace all damaged panels between laps (and in under 2 minutes)

They allow it in many other games, although I think GT games are the only ones that use road cars.

Must admit though can't see why i'd want to customise the cars.. never put daft wings on previously.

I'm pretty sure Forza and NFS games are road cars and they get damage?

I meant from a visual point of view. ie customising = bodykits, spoilers.

Standard is best. :+:

Tuning is another matter of course.

PGR has real cars and "damage", though it's of a limited nature.

DiRT has good damage on it, this will no doubt be replicated in RD1, though i just hope that the game works properly with a wheel unlike DiRT.

Lots of games have road cars and have damage, so I dont understand why GT cant? Forza has some pretty good damage. Difference is they either cant add it or their relationships with the manufacturers isnt that good.

Oh dear ... I played GT4 just wishing I could alter the look, change the paint and add decals etc. Daft wing? So a GT wing dosnt add downforce or anything? ;) Forza has front and rear aero which you can use to adjust the downforce etc - you can also put silly bumpers and skirts of you want.

Also IMHO if your playing online then this is part of your identity. How dull to see a race of stock cars in stock colours. In Forza when you race you can see all the stuff people have done to their cars, the styling, the paint jobs, the decals and it does make a difference.

hmm, when i used to play toca3 online, we couldn't customise the race cars but you were generally known by what team car you used for example i used to the castrol v8 holden in v8 supercars, but even so, your name was still displayed above the car so it wasn't really an issue as you looked more for the gamer tag than the car.

We'll see i guess, hopefully broadband will be up and running for me at the weekend.

Their not really moving the ball forward, so to speak, are they?

The dreamcast's Metropolis street racer didn't have real time dame, but it had the venue's lighting was real time (if it was dusk in in real life, then it was dusk in the game. It also had real time weather if you were connected to the net as well.

Where has that type on innovation gone?

Yep forgot they changed the name.

It does look good, but i'm dissapointed with the lack of UK and Euro tracks. Merkinisation. :-:
