[Mk2] [Turbo] Why are turbos so s**t

Post by alanmr2turbo »

Well i have owned my turbo for a total of 7 months now ans so far the list of things that have gone worng with it are growning FAST and EXPENSIVE

1st new recon engine fitted
2nd new drive shafts
3rd new suspension well 2nd hand from a well known place which was so called tested  was it heck unless it was checked by some retarded gimp.
4th Gearbox

As well as other littler things to make the car as it should be, i.e things missing that are ment to be on car like fog lights etc....

Then today the head gaskets goes on it as lots of steam from exhaust and mayo in the head it

Its now booked into see Nathan at Mr2's, heard good things about him and have had some parts from him in the past.

So far this car owes me £3,500 thats without the new headgasket so could call it £4k and all i get for it is grief and empty bank balance

Im really thinking of going back to German engineering where they actual make things to last and not pull your trousers down and rape ur ass everytime you need a new part.

Rant over, i feel better now ........ NOT

if you buy a dog then your gonna be dishing out the cash that goes for any car, on the money youve spent on it you coulda brought a nice rev3!!
sickening thought i know :pale:

yeah, wanted a rev 3 as well  if only you could turn back time.

Still, looking on the brighter side.......if there is any while he has the engine out to do the head gasket i will get him to fit the LSD gear box and decat pipe i have sitting in the garage :D

Then i  nothing else goes wrong with it

I'm on my third tubby now and besides wear and tear parts Its never let me down.
I think you have to be carfull when you buy em, my old REV3 was a bit of a dog compared to my new REV2 it feels like a different car (Iknow technically it it)

One good thing is though when its all fixed at least you know its been done properly :thumleft:

Just think of the fun you can have in it now the weathers getting better 8)

If they dont empty your bank balance through repairs then they will empty your bank balance with mods.

Mine served me well for 2 years or so and took some proper grief over that time. When it went bang i wasnt suprised... suprised it lasted that long maybe  .

there are a few out there that haven't been looked after properly and you have to feel sorry for the buyer(in this case you)

Ive had my current turbo for 2 and a half years, only things Ive needed to buy are a knock sensor(which i damaged£65) and a relay for £18.95...

not even a light bulb has blown....

have spent a small fortune on mods but it's my hobby... :-k

hope your luck improves mate.. :thumleft:

Best bit of advice i can give you, dont buy a lemon! or take someone who knows what they are looking at next time you buy a car.

Owned 3 mr2 turbos with no major issues on any!

buying a german car instead would just be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

You've spent all that money now so hopefully it will be sorted. :thumleft:

Just look at the JD Power survey over the last few years at which manufacturers that come up at the top and you will see Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Skoda all coming up trumps. BMW, VW, Audi, Merc not as reliable as everyone thinks and certainly not cheap for spares.

If you want cheap spares then it's vauxhall and fords.

Dont knock ebay, i've purchased 2 cars from there now and both have been exactly as expected and bought for a bargain.

It's no worse than buying from any other private ad.

Had mine nearly 4 years, modded to over 300bhp.

It had a new clutch, new exhaust and a new shock.

All wear and tear parts, NONE of those parts were Toyota parts either.

Oh and my head light bulb went last night. 1st bulb in nearly 4 years!

IMO one of the most reliable performance cars money can buy.

The problem with ebay is your bidding on a car you might not have seen and are then obligated to buy it if you win.
NOT how to buy a car.

My Celica GT4 WRC p1ssed me right off, I owned it for a week and the damn turbo stopped working! Four weekends spent skinning knuckles later and it was replaced and everything was fine. Was most odd as the CT20b that I have sitting about still looks fine with no play in the shaft or anything!

My MR2 on the other hand has been fine. I've just had the clutch replaced (at 85k miles it was about time) but that's the only part that I've needed to replace so far, can't really complain :)
