is imoc turning in to eBay?

Post by redmk1 »

why is it now that alot of of things in the for sale sections are people advertising ebay auctions?
surely people should just put a price up and stick to it!
is it just me who feels this way?

wouldnt you rather know about something they are selling on ebay than have never had the oppourtunity to look or buy it at all?

also from a sellers point of view your attracting buyers from a far wider audience, so its sometimes the logical thing to do perhaps?

I'm wholly in favour of ALL for sale posts stating a price. I don't have a problem with folk posting E-Bay items, but for those of us who don't use it I think there should be prices stated on the forum so folk know what the seller wants and can make an offer.

Ditto, parts should have a price attached.

They have that on the oc though dont they? only problem with that is no1 seems to go on it, Maybe if they just listed it in the subject title as ebay:then the item title? so people interested could look and people who find ebay annoying could avoid it.

Actually I noticed that on the .oc the other day as well -posts must show a price or risk deletion. Fantastic idea.

I have no problem with posts redireting to an ebay auction. After all if you want it enough then you will bid on it..

I am concerned at the new restriction on the for sale setion now only being available to premium members.. whilst i can see the point financialy for the site, even over the last week or so all it seems to be doing is reducing the amount of parts available and making the board less popular...

i can see some of the points made but if i wanted to bid for over priced stuff for my 2 then i would go to eBay, not on an mr2 forum where you would expect to find stuff at reasonable price and not be forced into bidding wars.

On the contrary. We have actually seen a rise in the amount of 'Premium Members' in recent weeks. What this method discourages are 'one post wonders' who join up just to sell thier parts for profit. They have no real interest in helping out the MR2 community other than making a fast buck. It also offers a bit more security to potential buyers as now we only get paid up members advertising...people who have invested in the good of the club.

No problem with ebay links.
Personally, I prefer to list items in the For Sale section here first and then if no interest use Ebay as the last resort.
I'm all for the For Sale section being Premium Members only as it helps remove the one post wonders after a quick buck.
The cost of subscription is only a few quid which represents great value for the information and help available on the site, and making advertising in the For Sale section only available to Premium Members will help get more members contributing towards the costs of running the Club.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. I can see people changing their minds on pricing based on responses though, so it has the potential to cause a lot more work for the moderators.

Enforcing pricing on for-sale posts has been talked about many times before. We've always resisted doing it because it does mean more work for the moderation team, and personally I've yet to hear a really compelling reason for doing it. If you want to know how much, then just ask.

I'm not sure I agree totally there. If I was selling, I would consider a specialist forum to be more of a captive market, and expect to be able to sell things at a premium there.

TBH I am amazed at how controlling people want to be!! Often I have a part I don't know the worth of really, and I might advertise it for 'offers'. You might get two or three responses and then get a ballpark of what is reasonable, then try for that price....I can't see anything wrong with that, we've had 'what's it worth' posts on cars/parts since the forum began!

being forced to put a price is just crazy in some cases .
particulaly on rare /modified items /cars. it in these cases it is a lot easier to have a few people offer some amounts too gauge the realistic/ fair price to sell it for

it's good to see opinions but my personal opinion is that things should carry on as they are and it's nice to see eBay links for others...if it's just a case of people trying to get as much money as they can then they don't belong on this site...

Ive bought items for good/fair prices and sold many to other members for as fair a price as possible (no profit) because we are all in the same club...i lost over £200 on a turbo I've sold on here but it's just the way i think is fair...

I'm sure 80% + members work on these principles too and they help make IMOC what it is... :-k

I'm guessing this thread is going along the lines off picking on the 20%- which is good...

shame on them :(
