[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 3 splitter now sprayed! Satin finish....Any way to protect????

Post by 2Crooky »

Hey peeps!

Well today i managed to prep my splitter and give it a satin black finish. The quality of the splitter was never amazing but i'm not bothered about marks or dents that can be seen close up.

But i wanted a good paint finish and i am really happy with my efforts using rattle cans and a sanding block!!!

As it is a satin finish you do not use laquer.....Is there any way of me sealing the paintwork to protect it any better?? I am aware that i will need to touch up the paint from time to time. Would waxing it be a good idea??? :-k

Here's a few pics of start to finish......Oh and i'm liking the no fogs look too :D

PMSL!!

I was embarrassed to drive it for the short while it was yellow!! Preferred it when it had chrash damage!! Still got a split in my wing and a creased headlight cover but at least the car looks normal again!! \:D/

Ummm,

You could try and apply a very thin layer of laquer so it doesn't give much shine to the paint, that should protect it and stop the paint from flaking.

Don't laquer it. Just make sure you bake the paint on properly.

Looks awesome!

I'm just wondering why you didn't spray it before fitting?
Looks good though... do you notice the difference much compared to the rev1?

Yes i could have but a mint rev 2 splitter is hard to come by and worth about £50-60!!

I got this one free of charge.

Sprayed it whilst on the car beacause i was going for a satin/matt finsh and not laquering the paint. Because the paint would have still been fresh, fitting it up to the bumper and bolting it tight could have easily resulted in paint chipping or flaking.

It took a while to mask it up but i managed to get the masking perfect so there is no overspray or yellow showing :)
