[Mk2] [Generic] Rear Foglight conversion parts

Post by Steve-O 2007 »

Just wondering what parts I need to do the rear 3 way fog light conversion. I already have the inner and outers as brake / side but I want the inners to be fogs as well.

I had a site but lost it and seem to remember that I need 4x diodes but cant remember what value they were anyone know?

Also if anyone has a diagram that would also help.

Thanks

You need 4 P600A ~5A diodes, and 2 dual filament bulb holders (and 2 dual filament bulbs which I forgot when I did mine!). The diodes are maplin part number UK59 and are available here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... 9&doy=16m3

I have a loom spare with the required bulb holders on it if you need one. Info on doing the conversion is here: http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/Knowledge_Base/o ... d=235.html

Nitpicking I know, but a 21W filament only draws 1.5A at running voltage. So you could use a 1N5400 per bulb at about a quarter of the price per diode. P600A's are rated to 6A, which is a little overkill.

But it's only a couple of pounds and P600's will work fine :thumleft:

Also, 4 diodes are not necessarily needed for a JDM car. It will depend on the way the tell-tale and fogs are wired. I've a live from a relay to power the fogs, but I have the tell-tale on the trigger side of the relay, so the load from the brakes can't feed back into the fog tell-tale. So I am only using 2 diodes.

You're absolutely right, I was just making life easier as the list follows all the guides available on a few websites :)

Maybe it's better kept simple in that case. Not like the extra and/or higher rated diodes will do any harm lol.

Forgot to reply to let you know hoiw I got on.

Anyway, went to maplins and they had 1 of them types of diodes instock but after some searching he managed to get some similar rated ones (came to total of £2.30 for 4). Overall I only used 3 and it was very easy to do (one to stop the current going back up the fog wire when braking and lighting up my fog switch and 2 for the brake lights to stop them all comming on when the fogs are turned on..

What rate fuse should I used on the live fog light wire? 5 - 10 amp??

Thanks

I presume it's feeding two 21W filaments? I=2x21/14, I=3A so the next one up from that, which I guess is 5A :thumleft:
