does anyone have an xbox 360 elite????????

hey guys, i need something from an elite owner (if its not being used). elites come with an extra dongle for audio options. its a grey box with a red and white phono socket and an optical socket. you only need and use it if you are connected to the tv with an hdmi lead and have sound running through an extra digital amp instead of sound through your tv. does anyone who has an elite not use this and be willing to part with it???? please reply or im me ASAP if you arnt using yours!!!!!! i thought my 360 woahs were over until i discover that yopu can only get this adapter with the black elite models (bloody microsoft)

if it doesn't work out, you can actually buy these - I've just done it.

I had to look on the US Microsoft website to find out the name of it, as for some reason they don't actually show it on the UK one!

You dont need this to get digital sound if you are useing HDMI that carries digital picture and sound to the tv just have every thing going to your tv then send the sound through an optical out to your amp

I have an elite and this sort of what I do but I have several digital inputs to my amp , the little box with the red and white phone connections are analogue the optical is digital but you only need this if you have no optical out on your tv which you should have (if your tv has hdmi)unless you are useing the optical out already then if you are, when you change source on your tv whatever source your tv plays should go through your optical straight to the amp

so you send the pic directly to the tv? doesn't that negate one of the biggest points of the amp? ie only one cable to TV? In saying that i'm actually going to have to read how to set mine up properly, atm i'm running

360 ---hdmi--- AMP ---hdmi----TV but if i flick my 360 and amp on i get a little blue light meaning full blown sound, as soon as i flick my tv on the light goes out and i only get dolby PL

Well what I do is my ps3 goes straight to my amp , everything else ie dvds ,sky,360 goes to my tv and then out via the optical to the amp or you could (if your amp has hdmi) send your hdmi through your amp on its way to the tv (this is how my ps3 is set up) It just depends on how many digital inputs you have on your tv/amp

I've done a bit of geeking up on this on various AV forums. From what I understood, this sometimes isn't ideal as most TVs won't actually output 5.1 from their optical ports, as when it gets to the TV through the HDMI, it alters it to stereo.

I've also heard of delays occurring between sound and picture, as the sound has to go from the source to the TV, through the tv, then to the amp - rather than straight from source to amp. Whether these delays are really that noticeable I have no idea!

I've got an optical splitter so my sky and xbox both go into the optical amp on my TV.. only problem is having to get up and change the switch on the splitter... not that I'm that lazy
