[Mk2] [Turbo] A few more questions about acheiving the 400bhp mark

Post by phil-p »

I want to run around the 400bhp mark, i know there are loads of stuff out ther but i cant seem to see what i am looking for.

What do i need to do the 205 cc to make it capeable of the 400bhp mark?

Will i need bigger valves in my head for this power to, or are the standard ones fine?

Is the stock rev 2 inlet manifold and tb good for this power to?

whats your setup so far?

Big valves aren't needed to acheive 400hp. Also you will get by with the std manifold and throttle body.

My parts list so far, its a rev 2 engine

wiseco 86mm pistonns
Eagle rods
Clivet bearings
ARP bolts throughout
tvis spacer plate to junk the tvis
gt2871 .84 ar turbo kit
act clutch
fidanza flywheel
engle valve springs
fidanza cam gears
hks 264 cams
ko racing bored out ruel rail
800cc sard injectors
sard fpr
walbro 255 fuel pump
Head ported and polished
Engine balanced
ss exhaust manifold
3inch down pipe
3inch ausie front pipe
blitz nur spec exhaust
blitz air filter
blitz bov

If you've not already got a tvis spacer I've got a TVIS that I gutted thats coming off my car that will be for sale.

I left the TVIS and VSV off my build. Personally I'd leave the head port and polish too. Not sure on the GT28 power limits. Haven't really looked into them so can't comment. Rest looks good though. :thumleft:

Cheers. No not got one yet but i think my dad is going to make me one like ats's

So the port and polish isnt required then? thought it helped on the rev 2 head? i think the 2871 is rated for 460 anf the garett site. So my spec should see me the 400 bhp then with the cc?

what do i need to do to the cc to make it at its most efficient? just heat lag it?

I've heard that the 205 CC will take 400. Its at these levels that the GT4 guys tend to swap it out, so its a bit of a grey area. Might be worth popping over to gt4oc to see what they have managed with it.

I'm not convinced by polishing the ports. Having the ports worked would help no doubt, but the head is good enough. There has been a lot higher than 400hp hit with a stock head.

If you're interested, this is the gutted TVIS :thumleft:
blatent sales pitch

I have asked on the gt4oc and they dont seem to like them very much, they are telling me i need a intercooler.

Cheers well its a maybe the head now just see what funds i have at the time then weather i get it done or not.

Er sorry i am on i tight budget and i have upped it and still gone over it lol, i am going to get my dad to make me one, it wont cost me anything cos my dad has the material lying around at work.

Worth a try eh!

I guess the reason they go for I/Cs is cos they can front mount, which is obviously easier, and weight saving perhaps. Its a bit more of an issue for us though. Maybe you can find the limit/restriction? Or maybe get the core flow tested to gauge what power it could take?

If you aim to run a 2871 at 400bhp you will be running pretty high boost levels......

I have heard that 400bhp is their limit :)

Spool time is superb, me and my bro fitted a 2871 to his 200sx and its really punchy at 1.4bar.......

I think you would be better off with a TD06 turbo kit or a 3071r......

Just my thoughts :thumleft:

I heard they are good for just over the 400bhp mark

I dont really like the tdo6 i heard its a bit slow on spool up, i am going for quite quick response so i want a garret gt. Was considering the 3071 but thought they had a similar power output but the 2871 had a quicker spool?

I am hoping to run 1.8bar boost when i am wanting all the power and about 1.4 or 1.5 everyday

TD06 spools very early.....thats its appeal 8)

Trickster was running one on here with 400-500bhp!! Think his top dyno figure was 501bhp

If you want early spool then why not go for something like a CT26 stage 3 hybrid???

Trouble with a 2871 and you wanting to run 400bhp is that you will be running that turbo on higher boost level than a 3071...More boost, increased temps, increase the chance of possible engine probs.

O i have deen hearing some duff info then on the tdo6 because that was the one i was going to get originally but got put off it.

True about the 2871 will have to work a little harder all the time, i like the koracing 3071 turbo kit now with external waste gate and a screamer pipe. Whats ur veiw on this?
