Mark 1.5 rolling shell (ideal race project?)

Post by dgh.mr2 »

For sale as a rolling shell ideal for a 1.5 transplant – already having the required engine mounts, battery relocation, intercooler, fans, plumbing etc. in place – or might be used for a V6 conversion?

The engine and box are to go into my track car. But that is all that a 3SGTE engine transplant should require.

This is the ex Adam Hutchison car – totally rebuilt - the build and spec. of which is well known and thoroughly documented – see:

- only completed and painted at Woodsport last summer.

Very probably the least rusty most corrosion proof AW11 out there? (See all the pictures and descriptions of the metal replacement, inner cavity sealing, POR15 etc. – as he’s said, “built to last.”)

It is a sunroof, version in Helios Blue with custom wide arches by Paul Wood for big power/ big wheel use (currently running 7.5” x 16” front and 9” x 16” five spoke Azev rear wheels custom built by Adam).

Since my purchase of the car in January it has had over £400 spent on new ball joints, drop links, rear tie rods/stabiliser bars etc. + a geometry check and set-up by Mac1 Motorsport that eradicated the reported (and experienced) issue where it pulled to the left on lifting off the throttle at high speeds/ high revs/ boost pressures.

The shell could be supplied with a brand new Ground Control coil over kit (never used) and specced to go with the Koni and polybush set-up in place by Mark at Ground Control, who has owned a Mark 1 for 19 years so knows what to suggest!) at a fair additional cost.

For any further details and advice please either post, pm or e-mail me at

Thanks . . .

 David,

Why didn't you just buy an engine instead of breaking this one? :?

(PS If it's not a rude question: Who's doing the conversion to FEAM?)

yeah...
surely this car is worth more with the engine in (ie saving someone the hassle of putting another in it)
then buy anther engine for what you want?
surely?

Sorry to disappoint anyone but it has now sold - subject to the buyer returning with the rest of the money, having left a sizable deposit so I'm fairly sure it's done.

The reason for advertising as a shell/ selling as I have is because the handling is not right (I've said this in all pms and in a bit of detail on the TwoBrutal site but was warned not to say too much publicly for possible legal reasons) and I've run out of money and patience chasing the issue - given it's had new balljoints, drop links, tie rods etc. + a full geometry check/setting.

The initial handling issue - pulling to the left on lift off has now been sorted but it still has occasional dips/pitches on bumpy roads and sometimes understeers a bit vaguely on (left only?) bumpy corners.

It's also far too soft and I've been told now that the springs may be coiled.
I'm hoping - given I've had brand new ball joints, track rod ends and tie rods installed and that Adam had new dampers, polybushes etc. in 2007 - that this will finally sort the handling but haven't the money to pay for the fit & re-setting or risk fitting them if it doesn't. I have no guarantee it will and haven't the will left to do this or any possible further investigations hence the sale.

I'm used to it now and can anticipate, drive round it or handle it but didn't want to risk anyone else buying it as is and maybe have an accident because of any handling imbalance as I'd feel responsible.

The idea is that anyone buying it as a shell could/ would be expected to check all the settings and components after the re-build/engine fitting and make sure it's right before using it. I'm going to take a nasty hit on this but in conscience can't see a better way out/ out of the xxxx money wise. Cars eh?!

Thanks anyway.

Cheers

David

Yep, couldn't resist. Been wanting a shell for a while. Big power in mind but after speaking to Paul Woods it may be restricted due to rear CV's.....Gunna drop my engine in it and see what happens :-k :oldtongue:
