hello

Post by axgizmo »

Im laura, 22. Been in MR2 membership for 4 weeks now, had quite a few downs already but lots of ups too :D

She is a 2ltr, GTi-16, UK spec (just lost 4 yrs no claims so cant afford turbo) sob sob sob
I didnt put the jap plate on by the way either- its getting changed! lol

I was looking for a MK1 origionally, but i couldnt find a half decent one that was in my price range or anywhere near lancashire, So i started looking at MK2's (probably the best decision ive made in a long time tbh)

Anyway! here she is...

In the forsale ad on Pistonheads...

*yes its got a lazy eye kit, theyre not broken lol*

Outside her new home :)

In Morecambe the first day i got to properly drive her...

I put her new shiny Geargaiter on courtesy of Rhon (mr2oc)

I asked a good friend of mine to take some proper photos of her..

I absolutely love her, Cant wait to get a tubby :lover:

Well, she was a bit shabby looking when i got her, no ariel so the rain leaks into the boot)

I couldnt drive her for the first week as she had no tax, So until i got tax she was sat outside my house. Then the day came when i could properly drive her...
As i am used to front wheel drive i didnt mush her at all, took it easy, get to know her first...

she had a few problems that needed sorting, Like the electrics... A earth had gone in the drivers door so the windows/mirrors werent working (unless both doors were open lol)
And the wires behind the headunit were hacked to pieces (found this out when i went to replace it), Also the sensor in the drivers door handle had gone and kept setting my alarm off every time i tried to unlock it *rolls eyes*
So i took her to the auto electricians and got her back a day later in full working order

I drove her for 2 weeks while trying to put up with an aweful rubbing sound that went away when the clutch was pressed in, I thought it was the wheel bearing and was waiting for my dad to get his mechanic to check the car over as i was informed it wasnt a majorly despirate issue, it just needed sorting...

While i was still waiting i was driving the car and on the motorway i could feel something throught the arm rest in the middle of the car, i knew it wasnt right so i pulled over into the slow lane just as i lost all gears and the rubbing noise became very very loud...
I limped to the services (1/2 a mile from where i was, luckily) And waited to be towed home

So that was me out of acton for another week... i got the new clutch and release bearing on trade so cost around £70, and my dad fitted in within 4 hours, which i was rather impressed with as he's never worked on the 2 before, were used to my AX Gti i have in the garden

Lastnight i got her back from the garage where my dad was changing the clutch and she was great to drive :) so glad to have her back :)
Altho while my dads mechanic was checking the car over he noticed the fan is on constantly and shouldnt be, so i need to go back to the autosparks for a new switch for it. Will do that at the weekend if possible :)

Future plans:
* Clear front indicators
* UK plate on back
* Sort out a scratch on bonnet :(

Then im just going to build up a few years NCB in her to get a tubby :D

So here i am. Sorry if i have bored you to death, i quite enjoyed writing all that

Laura x :D

Not having much luck with this car at all!!

Cant drive her, again!

the Forward/backward Gear cable has snapped! :(
Possibly due to old age! more likely due yo old age combined with recent loss of clutch!

So im carless again! 5 weeks of ownership, 2 weeks of being driven... not doing too well so far am i! #-o

Defo get some second hand ones from someone breaking a car on ebay or something like that. Not too tricky to fit. :thumleft:

Make sure if you're going to put clear indicators on that you go the extra distance and use Toyota rev4/5 ones rather than the cheap nasty 'crystal' ones you get on fleabay... ;) Looks very tidy though! Don't think I've ever seen one with no fogs before.

Whats wrong with the crystal ones? Personally I think these with a set of Raybrig lights would look much cleaner than defused toyota lights.

They just make me think of ford fiestas with lexus light clusters... ;) Personal preference I guess!! I'd rather have the proper manufacturers version than some cheap one off eBay as well
