[Mk2] [Turbo] sky insurance premium has gone up £100, what do you pay?

Post by afennell »

Sky insurance, my premium has gone up!!!!

I don’t understand how my premium can go up £100 when nothing has changed and I have an extra years no claims.

They want me to pay over £600 for a 28 year old with 10 years no claims, the car in in a good area in a locked garage all week. I have a Mondeo as my daily drive.
The car has the usual mods de-cat, wheels, shocks, uni chip, intercooler.
Just phoned them up and they say its gone up because of the mods, but the mods have been the same for the last 2 years!!!

I’m going to phoning around the usual suspects.
Who do people with tuned cars use, and how much do you pay.
A-plan
Adrian flux

Thanks for the help people.

   Usually it goes down (My insurance on my Mercedes dropped by £300 with elephant after the first year!)!

Give Adrian Flux a call

My policy started the day I turned 21 and I have 1 years no claims. I live in a good area, car on drive, car declaired as being used for commuting back and forward to work, Thrird Party Fire and Theft (wouldnt do fully comp because of my age and type of car), £200 or £250 excess and I have all my mods declaired -

18" Equip Alloy Wheels
Blue Flame Turbo Exhaust
3" Down Pipe
Border Front bumper
Phoenix Power Side Skirts
Bomex Rear Spoiler
Rear Spats
Twn plate clutch
CUSCO Adjustable shock coil overs
CUSCO rear strut brace
XPower Large SMIC Intercooler
HKS Air Filter
Turbo XS Type – H Blow off valve
Greddy Turbo Guage
Exhaust Temp Guage
Water Temp Guage
Oil Temp Guage
Turbo Timer
Apexi Super Air flow converter
HKS Boost controller
Bride bucket seat

and it only came to £1,089 (I know its almost 2x yours but Im only 21 with only 1 years ncb)!!! Only thing is Im on a 3000 mile usage policy but I dont think it will cost much to increase this.

Flux have never been anywhere near competitive for me. I usually play A-plan and Sky off against each other. Have also tried Chris Knott. Most companies the renewal will go up as people are too lazy to shop around.

Mind you, I'm only paying £320FC (27 with 6 years NCD) in a locked garage. 6k miles/year as I commute by train. No real mods (decat).

A-plan all the way mate, no-one has come close to them and I have lived in a few different places all round the South and now North West. :thumleft:

They offered me qoute of £300 for the same policy but I had to keep the car in a garage, but it was about a mile form my house so I had drive-way instead, you should we easily covered for £500.

£400 FC, 29 with 8 years NCB, parked on drive, named driver, agreed value, like for like repair on parts and all mods declared, social AND commuting (limited mileage though 3000miles, but who`s gonna check, they didnt ask what my start mileage was  )

My renewal with Sky this year didn't offer any savings despite an extra years ncb but after searching around I still couldn't beat their quote

A-plan gave me a renewal of nearly £50 increase on last year. So i called them with a new name but same details etc etc, guess what??

They dropped it lower than my first year cos i was a 'new customer'.
You can guess which quote i demanded.

They're still the most competetive by far though. :thumleft:

lol...youve hit the nail on the head there mate and bringing it to the public's attention deserves a medal....

well done

thats why i change my insurance company every year....sooner or later though they are going to realise they are losing out...

unless they assume the law off averages and by you not claiming over 1 year makes you more likely to claim the next year....

ollie from sky insurance...opinions please :thumleft:

Well, this was the first year i thought to query it, and i couldnt believe the cheek of it.
Attention all, question every bill or quote you get!
Another example, i found out ages ago that Virgin media were doing 2 for £20 or 3 for £30 etc with the broadband and telephone but were quite happy charging me £40 odd quid a month for the same as an existing customer so i called em, asked em why and they blatantly told me it was to build a new customer base. So i said, give me the same or im off to Sky or whatever.
Hey presto, Robbie is on 2 for £20 a month :thumleft:

Spoke to Simon, very helpful and no problem when going through the mods. Like for like as well with no limited milage.
