Its hard to give an answer. As you can see by all the responses. You need to look at what you like and what you want from a machine games wise.

In terms of technology the PS3 is a fair bit better. The only downside is that its a pig to program for. As was the PS2 but towards the end the games got better and better, Final Fantasy XII is the most stunning game ever created for me and that came out after the 360 itself.

The 360 seems to have neared its limit, which is not to say its not good. Its very good. It has a solid user base and great live arcade system and plenty of already quality low priced games.

However is you like pure console gaming, i.e not loads of FPS the PS3 is the system. The majority of the best titles are developed in Japan where Sony is still very strong.

Im not a Sony fan despite owning a PS1 PS2 and PSP. I just like japanese develope titles as a whole, Final Fantasy, Pro Evo, Rez, Okami, MGS etc. They develope for my taste. If your tastes are different go for a 360.

Another point for the PS3 - PS3 remote play using PSP, and PSOne games downloadable to PSP (no extra charge) so you can buy retro games and play them on your PSP as well :)

I'll be interested to see what the DualShock 3 controller is like.

Also, my comments re X360 noise - I have an Elite, so it's not an early one. I'm not sure if later Elites/HDMI-equipped standard Xboxes are quieter as mine was bought on the day of UK release.

Rez HD++, though.[/img]

personally, and as everyone here knows. i prefer the 360.

yea the ps3 has a blueray player and is wireless internet ready but i bought my console for the games and the 360 has the most of them.

for starters i really dont mind paying for live as from what i have read it is by far the superior service. plus 11p a day is hardly rape.

i admit home sounds awesome but im sure MS wont jus lay back and watch.

if you look on a site like metacritic then the 360 has over 60 titles with scores of 90%+ where the ps3 only has about 5 and most of them are EA sports games.

the people that say the 360 is coming to a peak of its power dont have a clue what there saying. the PS2 lasted years and so will the 360.

also someone said its coming to the end of its life? well even if it was then we were playing it for a year before anyone had a PS3.

i admit the PS3 has power but i dont see anyone using it for a long while yet. especially now that GT5 is delayed.

Where does this notion that the 360 has reached it's limit come from?

Also why does everybody seem to assume the ps3 is a far superior machine? There's been plenty of write ups about sony's claims for the ps3 and it's actual ability to deliver, even then there's not a whole pile of difference between the specs, it used to be simple to determine which console was more powerful 8bit < 16bit < 32bit etc, now you need to be Geeky McNerd to even come close to understanding half the stats #-o

edit: also bluray gives the potential for huge gaming experiences, but i'm nearly certain that i read somewhere that bluray discs can only be read at 4x or something? which means that the actual graphics can't take advantage of the extra space, well not unless the ps3 utilises about a 50gb cache for them and preloads them onto the HD. I may be totally wrong about that but i'm sure there was an article about it somewhere 8-[

Thats totally wrong. Just watch any of the 360/PS3 comparison vids and the 360 always looks better. Compared a lot of the games 1st hand too and the graphics are definately better on the 360.

Agree about the paying for everything part though! That sucks....but it is worth it!

Here's a little test.

Whats the online base for COD4 on the PS3 like?

I know you will never struggle to be involved in huge games on the 360 as there are millions of people worldwide on it.

Statements like that are simply personal opinion and now helping the discussion. Although yes why pay 300 to play. However we are playing old tat rehashed with often less content but better graphics.

However to counter your statement im gonna put my side across, for me PS3 and 360 games are all xxxx. Ive yet to play a single title thats any better than older stuff.
Gaming has stagnated very badly. Too much focus on HD. Very little creativity. HD has forced people to have a very blinkered view on what makes a good game.
Ok next gen titles have improved in the last year, often titles were smaller than the older counterparts and often rushed out.

Dont get me wrong Matt im not having a go at what you said at all, but i cant see why anyone has bothered buying either machine as they both offer nothing. Both machines are/were expensive, games are expensive too.

I just purchased a gamecube for the first time for a bargain price and had hours of fun with it.

graphics mean jack sh!t, its playability that counts!!
i still aload of old ps1 games because they had to focus more on game play because there wasnt much they could do with graphics.
i would much rather play a game that looked ugly as sin but played really well. and im yet to find that on the 360 so far, yes ur gonna say im mad because i dont like gears of war but ur telling me running and hiding behind cover every single time u get out numbered isnt repetative??? of course it is gears is just the same game all the way through but in new environments....

I've owned alot of the consoles before and between probably the Snes and Mega Drive and the new gen nothing was any good to me.

PS1 and 2 never captured me, none of the games struck me.
I didnt used to like FPS really. I played a few on those consoles and hated them.

I love the new generation of them though.

On another point, my comment was more due to the fact there are cheaper ways of playing these old games. Emulators or just owning the old consoles lol.

I can’t see how paying a subscription to XB live is enough to put people off a 360? At least the 360 actually has an online service which works and has games which you can actually use online. The only reason why Sony’s service is free is because firstly they have nowhere near the same amount of users as the 360 and secondly very few of the games offer truly online gaming.

Sony are just as money grabbing as MS so do you really think that if the PS3 had the same online audience as the 360 Sony wouldn’t be charging you for the privilege? The whole free online service has been done by Sony to try and justify the cost of the unit and also try and make it strand out from the 360 – after all Sony were late to market and had lost a lot of perspective customers.

Graphics wise anyone who seriously claims that the PS3 is better graphically to the 360 when running the same game is kidding themselves.

Most of the games are direct ports so graphically they are identical with the exception of maybe slightly more contrast or colour saturation – they even run at the same speeds. Dare I also mention that most of them are also coded for the 360 and then ported onto the PS3? In that case how can they be visibly better?

I don’t know how anyone can say the 360 has neared its limit, what’s available now is just the tip of the ice berg and programmers are still improving and refining code, graphics are getting markedly better and this will happen for a good few years yet.

Also the 360 isn’t just FPS titles, they have a massive range of games, it’s just the FPS titles get the attention as these are usually the really popular games. As for the best titles coming out of Japan – Ooookay then! … Totally subjective IMHO! The games I have seen coming out of Japan look pretty mediocre and its just lots of turn based RPG randomness.

Personally I also don’t think the games on the next gen machines are worse than those that went before, its just that the bench has been set pretty high so for a game to distinguish itself it takes a lot as we have seen a lot of it before. Also people have rose tinted goggles and think everything was better than it was. I used to long for Amiga games of old, got an emulator played a few, questioned why I was messing around with such dull repetitive games and went back to the 360!

Lol, every Xbox Live Arcade game I've downloaded with fond memories has turned out to be so poor.

Games I used to love to pieces have turned to be so basic to play, crap to look at and generally rubbish.

Sony not money grabbing eh?

Why is there no HD cable in the box? No head set for talking while playing live? No ethernet cable if you dont have a wireless router?

As for free online service, I've had it 2 weeks and all I've done is download some game demo's and look at the net. You can download demo's for free on Xbox live without paying for the gold membership.

There's no video store on PS Network either.

My plan is to buy anything i want thats available on both for the 360 and use the PS3 for PS3 exclusive games.
Or perhaps if some how I find one cheaper on the PS3 but seeing as how ever title seems to be more on the PS3 thats unlikely.

I have COD4 on ps3 and had it on 360 (came with machine) yet the graffics were FAR better on the ps3 FACT .

But this may be down to the free hdmi cable you get in the 360 which probably cost 2 pence to make compared to my more expensive item I have on the ps3,

Everyone goes on about the fact you get free cables wopteydo

The reason I mentioned it was because people slate the 360 saying you have to buy this this and that but you have to do it the same, if not more on the PS3

Least I cant be accused of being bias in this argument :eye:

That really is rubbish mate. Go to www.gametrailers.com and check out all the 360/PS3 comparison vids, the 360 is far better looking!

I've also compared the games 1st hand and the 360 comes out on top everytime.

COD4 is identical on both machines BTW, so its impossible to have FAR better graphics on the PS3.

The PS3 IS a better built machine yes, no questions there, its its also over-priced and doesn't have the games or the online player's that the 360 has.

So unless you want a Blue-ray player (I dont) I dont see the point in buying one. Yet.

the only way you can compare graphics is to have two identical tvs next to each other not looking on gametrailers
gametrailer videos are a pathetic excuse for a argument

the reason why the bluray discs arent full is because to fill'em they would have to spend so much more money on producing more content, theres no other reason fact

you cant say the ps3 is overpriced when its cheaper then the elite and its got a bluray player
for your extra money the elites got 80gb more and a headset wow (sarcasm)

i agree the xbox has got more games at the mo but it was released a year before so it will have but the theres going to be loads of more exclusives for the ps3 coming out HOME,ferrari challenge, haze, wipeout HD, gt5, metal gear solid, rfom2

to GTSMick
i know you said you wanted it for games but if you walk past a store showing planet earth on bluray you gonna feel totaly gutted that you didnt buy a ps3 ](*,)

No its not at all. Its backing up the point I'm proving.

A mate of mine bought his PS3 over not long ago. Same Samsung HD TV, same HDMI lead, same games, 360 looked better.

PS3 all the way. I know 360's breakdown quite a lot...something about the ring of death people say.

No subscription fee for online pay.

Its Jap technology of course its superior to american stuff lol

Theres loads of COD players on PS3...I find the Live system kind of annoying tbh.
