[Mk2] [NA] "What's it worth?" (I can't believe I just said that...)

Post by dan9 »

Haha - I don't spend a lot of time reading "what's it worth" threads, but now I find myself writing one!

I'm thinking of selling my UK rev2 MR2. It's got a few motorway miles now (135k) but is very tidy (near mint condition).

Details are on Pistonheads:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/376181.htm

I have had *some* interest, but I'm quite sure it's overpriced. The question is, what is it really worth these days?

It is old, and it isn't turbo charged. I've seen some NA cars for well under 1k! Is this all they are worth? I've put quite a bit of money into keeping it in top condition, so don't want to give it away.

Just wanted to get an idea of the real market price for a 1992 car, autotrader/pistonheads seem to have such a bizarre mix of MR2s...

Thanks for any advice,

Dan.

Hi Pal,

It is perhaps a little over priced. The mileage is a little too much in some respects, but it is balanced by SH and recent maintenance, so shy away from disclosing that first perhaps? You advertised on Autotrader? Also, being in Hampshire can be a put off for some, it's not central UK so some might not be prepared to travel.

I am hunting for MR2's and a major turn off for me is when someone isn't enthusiastic to try and sell it e.g. they don't tell me what they've done, I have to ask all the questions. They come off slightly hostile etc. If they are like that, I just switch off, no matter how good the car! I am not saying you're like that by any means...

Thanks for the advice - have updated my pistonheads advert for now with the mileage in the mileage box (!) and a lower price.

To be honest, I'm not desperate to sell (hence no autotrader advert yet) - there isn't a load of money tied up in the car (ie. I don't have to sell for financial reasons) and to me any car that will always start first time is worth 1k!

I think the MR2 is the most popular car on Pistonheads - over 300 of them for sale!

Hi mate, maybe if you look at my 2 you'll have a better idea ? I gave £950 for mine. Spent £60 on two rear tyres and £50 excess for screen plus lots of elbow grease cleaning it. I think i got a good deal, seller wanted £1300. It has 50k Jap engine, new clutch, new rad, 16" alloys otherwise standard UK spec. Does this help ? :thumleft:

Yours is a rev1 car (mine is rev2) but looks very nice! Perhaps 1k is all they are worth - in which case I'm keeping mine forever!

Enjoy your new MR2...
