HELP!! Anyone on here been Brands Hatch with a loud exhaust?

Post by Antstarr »

I have a Motoria exhaust with DP. Its very loud and boomy if some people have heard it...nearly/as loud as Nur Spec possible. Apparantly I need to beat 105dB...otherwise I aint getting on track!!

They said they dont do refunds so if I cant pass it im pretty F'd!

What shall I do? The event is on friday!!! My exhaust is loud at 6k rpm!!

Isnt there a way I can test my exhaust noise at Brands and then pay for the event or does it not work like that?

I wonder if my departure with gutted cat is any quieter. :-k Your car was pretty loud when luke had to move it I remember.

This thingy should help maybe?

I think trackdays do a standing and a driveby test, but dont quote me on that.

Damnit I think Scott had one of those on the weekend but I forgot to test mine. I kinda need it tested before friday!! If its certain I cant pass I need to know. I cant test beforehand as I work mon-fri most garages close at 6ish which aint enough time.

Not sure how they test at Brands... whether it be stattic or drive-by.
If it's stattic, it will be measured at 3/4 rpm (around 4500rpm) 1m away from the exit.
If it's drive-by, they will have meters placed at at least one strategic point on the circuit. Some circuits like Donny have more than one meter at various points...

Do you have a silencing bung you can put in the end? Or get something made up that could suit?
If you do get pulled for noise and as long as you can show a machanical or physical adjustment, the should let you out again.

Donny allow boost to be turned down. But the marshals monitoring the meters will pay extra close attention to the car when it's out again. Second fail, your day is over :(

Pretty sure its a static test at brands.

105db is pretty lenient though. Most 'loudish' exhausts will pass at this level. If yours is very loud ie antisocial type loud then the only way is to get a bung or supertrap to quieten it down.

You must make sure that it is secure though. Will probably cost you £50 or so.

You won't get a refund if you fail the noise test. They will say the limits are plain to see and that you've agreed to it in the T&C.

If you want to do trackdays best thing to do is get a quiet exhaust. Our integra type R was tested at cadwell last week at 4.5K.. made 79db!

Noise limits:

Brands Hatch Indy

Cars: Saloon & Sports Cars - 105dB(A) measured statically at 0.5metres and 45deg angle, at ¾ maximum rpm

Brands Hatch GP

Cars: Saloon & Sports Cars - 101dB(A) measured statically at 0.5metres and 45deg angle, at ¾ maximum rpm

and I thought I was taking the p1$$ by choosing 4500 as 3/4 of max RPM when the Supra's redline is 7250ish ;) It got 82db, which the guy doing the noise test thought was hilarious as the exhaust is silly big :P

LOL! Well i would have told them but the engine was a little cool... 4.5K is half of the Teg's rev range rather than 3/4. Really should have gone to 6.7K or so!

For a small track it was really fun, I may look to go again in the future once get a new turbo on my car.

I got to sit in a Porsche 911 Turbo and an IMOC members RX8 while I was there as well. Theres nothing better than the feeling or keeping up with caterhams once you have some experience and heat up the tyres ;)

Its a lot more fun and different to Bedford for sure, I found Bedford. What are other good tracks to enjoy?

That was my 2nd trackday :D
