[Mk2] [Turbo] Insurance for 21 and under

Post by Steve-O 2007 »

Just wondering who everyone that is 21 and under uses for insurance on there Turbo??

Got my policy from Adrian Flux but it jsut says MR2 GTS when I told them it was an MR2 GTS Turbo. Tried phoning them but the Customer Service bit was closed :( . Anyway, I was just wanting to make a list of other insurance companies to try just incase they say they cant insure me on a MR2 turbo (But I think they will)

Thanks

hello mate

not sure about the under 21 thing - I got mine when I was 26.

But if it says GTS, then they must know its a turbo - there was no UK or normally aspirated variant badges as GTS.

I had this with Norwich Uion and Tesco I recall - they had the options "GT Turbo" or "GTS" (amongst others). This I think is because the UK n/a car was a GT-16i.

ps you're going to have the mother of all excesses!

Huh? See I dont get this, I insured my GT Turbo with Flux and its costing me about a hundred quid more than you, and I`m 24 with 4 years no claims... What area do you live in? You have off road parking? Maybe mine is high cos its a crap postcode and vehicle is parked outside my house. Sounds a decent deal you got really I couldnt get insured on a Tubby at 21 with most places I tried.

I live in carlisle, cumbria. Luckilly vehical crime isnt that high around my area which helps on insurance plus its parked on the drive which takes it down. Also saying you are a club member brings the price down and the policy has that 3,000 mile limit on it which also brings it down. Also once Im at work I have access to company cars which they said will bring the price down and having a CAT1 alarm / Imob brings it down.

just out of interest, whats yours down as on the Policy form D4N, does it mention Turbo or is it just MR2 GT ???

Also, the policy is going through Highway Insurance

Ian - Think your right about the GTS bit meaning turbo, did a Google search and found this -

Strictly speaking, the car isn't officially called an MR2 turbo (the Japanese cars at least). The cars are called 'MR2 GT' or 'MR2 GT-S' (

If anyone can confirm this then that would be great.

Also, the policy says Japanese Import on it along with MR2 GTS.

Ian, does Tesco use UK call centres or do you get transfered over to India / Pakistan??? After speaking to insurers like Sky, Aplan and Adrian Flux I think I will be sticking to insurers that use UK call centres only from now on as its alot more easier when declairing mods etc.

Ah Thats why, Im insured Third Party Fire and Theft, they cant insure me Fully comp on it untill Im 23 or something like that. Just out of interest, did all your mods appear on the Highway Policy sheet? I declaired all my mods, about 18 of them but only 4 are shown on the policy sheet but when I phone Flux they have them all saved on the system, Maybe they only have room for 4 mods on the sheet so just put the more high risk of theft mods (Eg Wheels, Bodykit, lowered)

Sarah - Elephant will insure me on it but because of all the mods they say they cant. I said it has a dump valve and they said "Sorry sir but we cannot insure a car that has a dump valve fitted", they didnt even know what an intercooler was and if you car is crashed into they will replace all your damaged modified parts with standard parts even after you have declaired them and paid extra for them to be on the policy    Plus I have been told on here and by people I work with that the service is crap when you try to make a claim with them etc (Happy to take your money but when you have a problem they dont care as much). Thats why Im staying away from them from now on :thumleft:

Thanks

am 21 and insured on a tubby, £700 odd with HIC or £650 odd with elephant :)

HIC was purely a "im going to leave you if you wont cover me on this car" thing though :)

Best 2 search engines I used for my N/A were:

www.insurancewide.com (searches Performance Direct etc)

and

www.confused.com (searches all the usual lot)

When it comes to Adrian Flux or Sky best check with them direct for a quote

Admiral were good when I had my first MR2.

Can't remember the premium now, but it was fairly competitive even compared to old MR2DC club scheme.
