[Mk2] [Turbo] had a bad crash last night...no more mr2

Post by hagghill »

well foolishly last night i decided it would be a good idea to go for a quick drive last night on my way home from my friends.

when i decided to head home after my drive i made my way back home on a local stretch of road which i use daily to commute on and have used for many years, the roads a 60mph limit and i was prob doing about 40mph.

theres an apex left hander then a long straight, as i entered the apex the car fealt fine but on the exit as i started to accelerate in 4th gear the back end just went "due to some diesel on the road the police said" at this point i was doing 60mph.

i lost control went up a steep banking and hit a tree sideways at about 50mph which then span the car 180 degrees and it came to rest on the middle of the road

i didnt know what to do, i just remember kicking the drivers door open and undoing my 3 point harness and running towards the stream of cars to stop any further collisions!

luckily the police where 3 cars behind me and where able to control the traffic and call an ambulance straight away, i didnt even know i was injured until i touched my head and found the drivers mirror had shattered and a fragment of glass was stuck in my forehead.

i feel very lucky to have walked away and even luckier that i knew a local chap with a car recovery van who arrived within 20mins to collect the car and even luckier the local road sweeper was coming the other way so the road was cleared in no time.

im feel stiff, rough, abit battered and bruised today and my pride is a bit sore but it could have been worse, ive had the car less than 1 week and lost £4500 as im only 3rd party fire and theft but im walked away which is the main thing (so everyone keeps saying)

i went to collect my stuff from the car this morning and i couldnt belive what i saw.....

Crikey - that's a mess ! Glad you're mainly OK :thumleft:

If it's not repairable, you should be able to make some of your money back if you break the car for spares, especially the engine

looks nasty - glad you weren't hurt more. looks like it was a nice car too, but when people say "you're ok thats the main thing", they're right, lots easier to replace a car than a person.

Bad luck, what tyres were you running?

As above, you should net a couple of £k by breaking her up. Don't accept a silly low offer for her.

Cheers,

Jeez.

That's a write off for sure. Terrible shame.

Interested in gearbox and engine though!

Good thing is your still ok, everyone will keep saying it but it will sink in eventually. I flipped my first car and climbed out the passenger side afterwards.. took a while to sink in tbh

Gutted for the car bud, some of it might be ok, engine etc.. might be worth looking into to recover so monies

thanks!

its got loads of stuff on there which is worth a bit, apexi gt cat back exhaust (£600 new) apexi power fc with commander not cheap, and other bits etc

the engine started fine today just as always although i only ran it for 15 seconds, i was thinking of selling the car complete if anyone was interested?

im not sure what its worth but if someone was willing to collect it then id let it go if o got a decent offer.

Ouch

Personally, I don't think that it looks repairable - that front end has received a heavily blow and I'd be surprised if the chassis isn't bent.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but it goes to show why Fully Comp insurance is a must when owning relatively expensive and powerful cars.

You got up and walked away though so the car did what it was supposed to :) It can be replaced (eventually) - you can't!

Lucky also that they didn't skid on the diesel.

The bodies of all the dead bikers (who had skidded on the diesel earlier that day) gave the police car extra grip.

Ouch  Glad you're ok though. I would deffo say that was a write off. Some cars cet written off when all they need is a new pannel & bumper :!:

You should be able to break that for spares though. Shame the O/S/R wheel is fubar as I would have liked your wheels from you. What are the other 3 wheels like, just oout of interest :?:

God the poor guy has only just ditched his motor after a week of owning her & the vultures have already started to circle

im not sure about the other alloys, i know what your saying but i feel its a good thing that people are interested in buying parts off the car or the whole car. i dont have anywhere to keep it long term so breaking it for spares isnt really an option. thanks

i'm really sorry for you mate, after just buying her and this happening...

at least you didn't get badly hurt and by breaking the car you could quite easily get 2-3 grand back on her....the apexi ecu should net you £400-£500 on it's own...

good luck anyway mate

Ouch  Glad you are OK though. It's gutting when you are third party, I wrote off a pug 306 a few years ago (flipped it on it's roof) and lost my money on that, never been 3rd party since.
If you can't fix it, break it and get some money back.

Sure it wasn't the stiles that fell from the car that the police drove on for extra grip?
