[Mk2] [Turbo] Starting, then immediately cutting out......

Post by TD04Starlet »

Bit of advice needed guys....

The cars been off the road over winter,, and hasnt been started for around 6weeks.

As the weather is getting a little better i decided to get into the garage and start the cars service for coming out to play this year. Beforehand though, i decided to give her a jump start and make sure she was running ok. All i got was a loud "clacking" noise....after a wee bit of deliberation i realised this was probably just the starter firing but not getting enough power. So i charged my spare battery and the car fired up,, it then cut out immediately. I tried again and the same happened time after time.

Anyone got any idea why this would happen as the car was running perfectly before i out it off the road.

Any help apprieciated.

Stephen.

Clean the ignition components, could just be condensation?

can you maintain engine running with the throttle?

I'll try giving the leads and plugs a wee clean and see if it makes any difference.

Nah mate,, pressing the throttle just cuts it straight out.

Any other ideas folks?

Ok sorted it mate.

This may or may not help.

It turned out that my driver from my EMS that was operting the Circuit opening relay was goosed, so I swapped to an alternate driver and it pulls the relay spot on!

So for you, check the COR is working when the key is turned to cranking position. You may only be getting enough juice to bump the pump. I think the relay is pulled open on the starter and then if its not held closed by the ECU the pump will stop.

Check your ECU FC output to the coil and make sure the coil is latching.

I think you can also remove the COR and bridge B+ and FB. Then start the car. This will make sure the pump runs no matter what. Best to just check the BGB and make sure this won't cause any problems.

Cheers for the reply's lads....

thankfully the solution turned out to be riduclously simple.

Somehow the hardpipe that comes down from the re-circ wastegate had came out at the bottom. There was no jubilee on there, but i still dont see how it came out.....but i suppose the main thing is, the solution was simple and cost free :thumleft:
