Turbo fuel consumption

Post by biscuitsbrown »

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what sort of fuel economy all you lot are gettin from your turbo's, preferrably standard ones but would be interested to see by how much it changes when you tune em up!

I get approx 23 mpg out of mine.

I'm pretty sure I have an 11.8783 British Imperial gallon or 54 litre tank with approx 9 litres as reserve meaning I use approx 45 litres or 9.8986 British Imperial gallons in-between fuel stops assuming I run it to the red, ( which I don't by the way just for the purpose of my calculations!! )
Where I live it costs 89p per litre (Shell Optimax) so thats £40.05 per tank! I get between 220 and 235 miles per tank so thats an average fuel consumption of 17.6235p per mile or 22.9831 mpg.

I know I know thats a bit geeky but I just like to be accurate!!

I was just interested to see if my car is about right or if I should be gettin a lot more out of it!

Look forward to hearing what yours all do

Regards Stu

i should think that you would get aroound 280 miles for a full tank apparent toyota thinks the N/a shud be getting 320 miles for a full tank!
I only get 200 for sensible driving

Pretty sure I'm around 23ish. I don't worry about it, it's my second car (I have a Diesel Laguna as the family motor) and as such it's a bit of luxury every now and then.

Like getting a Dominoes delivered - a treat now and then.....

Plus it's the sort of car where you just don't worry about the consumption - (unless it's drastically bad)....

Used to have a 2 that was my standard car before the kids etc, don't think I could afford to run one all the time now though!

I average 26mpg from mine driving normally. I've seen as much as 32 driving miss daisy and as little as 21 driving hard the whole tankful. Thats in current state of tune too. Seems the more power i get the better the economy???

I get about 100-110miles per £20 of Optimax so its about the same. I live in london though and run at 15psi on boostage (when theres enough space and the road is covered in humps)

My old Rev 2 tubby used to do around 250 miles on a tank of Optimax if I drove normally, and 200 miles if I drove like a fool.

On one Leicester --> Derby trip, my fuel economy was so poor that I was convinced I had a fuel leak somewhere. It was almost as if you could see the fuel gauge moving (but obviously not).
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I drove down to see Shaf last year and couldn't believe how much juice mine drank!

Too used to the diesel Laguna me-thinks.....

'bout 25-26mpg from the Supe. Probably about 12mpg from the Escort :-D

My dad finds his ST185 is also pretty hard on juice, I'd say he gets no more than about 30mpg.. and he drives like a girl ... no offence girls

Mine does seem to be a little on the low side for a nearly standard lump but hey, if I want economy I should buy a Golf diesel aye!

Kieron love the motor, looks well smart what is the body kit and rear spoiler??

Do you have any more pics dude?

cheers Stu :D

Would fuel economy be effected by lower intake temps?

ie. Using a CC would lower intake temps requiring less fuel for cooling purposes? (or slower burn)

My last car BMW E36 325i averaged about 19 miles to the gallon, so anywhere around 20 miles to the gallon and I think im quids in

Thanks Kieron I got that link. I've been trying to find a combination of kit that works for the MR2 for ages but something always looks wrong. However I think you've got it spot on there!
