A friend of mine got his back in under 2 weeks (even after he'd done the towel trick). Not bad if you can wait that long without your xbox.

Supposedly they have sorted it with the Falcon series of machines, which you may or may not have.

I cant believe the amount of 360 owners on here who have had this problem with there consoles. Quite shocking really

Apparently MS have so far written down profits by $1.15 billion due to the costs associated with extending the free warranty on the 360 to 3 years due to this problem

A top computer guy at my work who has friends that work for MS said the original plan to break even on console sales was planned for 2008 but now thats been pushed back to 2010.

I read somewhere they've got the failure rate down to 16% now with the redesigned consoles, which is an improvement but still ludicrously high! They're due to move to a different fabrication process shortly which reduces the size and therefore heat output of the CPU and GPU which should help a lot. Not that that's any use if you've already bought one!

Mind you, 4 or 5 friends and I all bought our 360s on release day and not one has died yet... touch wood! Mine will die tomorrow now lol.

Just for the record, I have 2 original xboxes (both v1.0) as well as the 360 and the only problem I've had was the dvd drive eventually failed in one of the original ones (which was a known problem with the Thompson drives). But by that stage it was 3 or 4 years old, in a different case with double the ram and a 300gb hard drive so I wasn't too fussed

Mine got picked up via UPS today so hopefully it won't take too long for me to get it back!

What annoyed me tho, it's taken me since the 2nd of Jan to get the labels emailed to me, i kept getting idiots on the phone when ringing up!

Fair play to MSoft, at least they admit they've got a major design fault, it's the stupid call centres that are the problem!

My sega megadrive still works, old playstation one still works, ps one still works, ps2 still works, xbox 360 still works( touch wood) but its rediculous the amount of them that break tbh.

and my master system still works nothing beats alexx the kid but you have too blow the crap out of it for it to start a game haha
