Sounds like the keyless entry system for imports that my Rev 2 tubby used to have although the key used to have the Toyota logo on it. No alarm or immobiliser; just doors lock/unlock. It used to put the heebie-jeebies up me not having a car with an alarm on it, so this was quickly replaced with a decent Clifford system.

I'd have thought it unlikely to have a 'Toyota' alarm fitted to an import (that most likely didn't have one in the first place), aftermarket type possibly.

alarm or not?

Many thanks for your reply to my question in responce to one comment I have checked and the dash has no security light never thought to check that, looks like it is just cental locking. I was just checking before i start fitting my alarm system just i remeber reading before that people were having problems with the toyota system. The Alarm system i am going for is a Avital with a proxy sensor i installed one of these systems to my first Mr2 and are well impressed, with its operation. The features it has and extra programmable options are great thanks for all your help cheers : Mike

Why not sit in the car, arm the alarm and then try triggering the alram by:

Switching on the interior light.
Opening the door.
Opening the boot.
Opening the bonnet.

If these actions don't do anything then either:
No alram is fitted.
It is broken.
It's crap and needs replacing #-o .

Regards,

Matt
