[Mk2] [Turbo] Lowered?

Post by RANDOMr2 »

(I was going to post this on the other thread about KYB shocks but I thought it would a bit harsh and a total Hi-jack ) so...with regards to these KYB shocks, I have the 4 way damper adjustable also which came on my 2 when I bought it and the springs are white. Do KYB make lowered springs? Basically I want to drop the cars height but not sure if it's already lowered a bit. I've parked next to other 2's that I think are standard height and it doesnt look any different I think but the gap between the tyre and the arches look different. :?

Here's mine
Image
Does it look lowered? :-k I want the gap closed as much as possible. I have some spax 40mm springs for the 2 in my shed but I didn't want to waste my time obviously changing the springs if it's going to be the same height.

cheers

Cool, thanks for the reply. So the KYD damper adjustable are meant soley to harden the dampers rebound? Are they any good? I mean, in comparison to other makes, spax, billies etc (can't really compare them to coilovers I guess - I'd love to get a set of coilovers!). I only thought (before I got the 2) that KYB only made OE replacements, not modifed or uprated versions.

So if mine isn't lowered, would I be ok to put the spax lowered springs on? I know sometimes un/mismatched suspension parts can sh4g the handling (and the 2 is twitchy as it is in the wet!) but isn't it usually when standard shocks are used with lowered springs that this occurs? I only ask because I read Banzai and other car mags and many people use different shock makes and springs. Even seen people do it with Coilovers. :?

The springs adjust the ride from soft to hard for what conditions you want. Not an expert so dont quote me but im sure thats the general idea. You can get a K-force Lowering Kit for the kyb springs but have seen other makes used on them springs aswell. Cant help with experience of the different makes tho im afraid as only have a crappy hyundai untill i get a mr2 in a few weeks :thumleft:

OK well think i'll try the spax springs with the kyb shocks. the drop is 40mm so not ott. but should look better than standard if that's what I'm on at the mo. Only problem is the border bumper I have is fookin low as it is on the 15s (205/55/15) and lowering the car is just going to make the bumper silly low I think

I think 40mm would make that bumper hit the floor imo

Whats everyone else think?

Springs just change ride height, dampers change the stiffness of the shocks. I was running 40 mill springs and spax dampers and once all allignement was done after lowering car cornered like was on rails.

Eibach or Tein 40mill springs really do just that, slam it.
I find some cheaper ones like Spax arent so low so you should be ok using them.

Different springs have different spring constants i.e. rate. Most lowered springs are stiffer than oem so will make the suspension stiffer.

LOL totally good point. But certainly dampers have more effect.

hhmm, front bumper looks low already so you might have problems lowering it.

Heres mine on Cusco Coil Overs with the same bumper but on 18" wheels. I can just get my foot under it with trainers on (cant get my foot under it with work boots on) -

Randomr2, Be careful on the speedhumps if you lower it with the Border bumper (my bumper has a crack from what Im guessing is from a speedhump)

hmm.. i'm lowered 50mm on my crx but the shocks are totally knackered. The ride is still harsh and stiff.. when i hit huge dips it lifts a bit so i'd say the dampers stop the the car bouncing.

Really? I lowered my 2 without dampers and was very soft but sat much lower. It wasnt until i installed dampers i had a stiffer ride.

The advert for the car said Rare Side skirts fitted. Maybe it already had them fitted over in Japan? They also have like a black plastic lip added onto the bottom of them which finishes them off great (You can just see it in the pic, dont know if they came standard with this lip or not).

Just looked at my Cusco coil overs and the fronts adjusted to almost the lowest setting.

Think you right, the look very similar and have the black lip, they are very nice I think -
