My Project
Thought I'd post-up as the car's getting a fair bit of work done on it over the next 3 months....
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... ge_id=8549
Stock car 2 years ago, Aquamarine rev 2 1993 GT-i with the 158Bhp 3SGE. Since then I've done a few things....
Team Dynamics wheels and Toyo tyres
Cusco strut braces front and rear
Blue Flame exaust and de-cat
2L VVT-i engine transplant from a 1997 rev 5 G-Ltd by Rogue in Kenilworth
Tein Super Street coilovers and poly sus bushes
Carbotech pads on stock rotors
Bomex front
Border side skirts
Border rear spats
Roge Rev 6 quad headlights
Tubby engine lid
De-Badged
JVC DVD player
Recaro Speed seats
Few gauges to keep track of things
...not including changing / repairing all the bits which go on a 14 year old car along the way (getting a service history with the car doesn't buy you much security in the end!).
I got the body kit on last year but it took a whole heap more work than expected so I got it looking OK -ish to see me through the summer before getting it all sorted professionally. I was never really happy with the bumper though. She's in the body shop now for a couple of months and the Bomex front is being replaced for a Rogue Rev 6 bumper, and Rev 6 rear spats. The car's being stripped and totally re-sprayed all one colour and all the dings etc. taken care of as well as a new front windscreen which has picked up dozens of stone chips over the last 2 years. I seriously miss not having the car at weekends already (only been 2 so far) but I know it'll be coming back to me looking like brand new.
Straight after I get it back, it'll be going back down to Rogue for a week as I've sourced quad throttle bodies which will be getting fitted as well as a C-One lightweight flywheel and a new Link ECU running MAP for the itb's rather than the current MAF set-up. That will probably be the first UK BEAMS itb set-up. I'll also be fitting new brake callipers and Goodridge braided hoses at the same time.
....And that's all I'm going to do to the car. That's way enough to keep me happy for the next 2 years -honestly!
Look out for updated pictures in my garage in spring, and a few items for sale which are no longer required or I've been hoarding for some reason.

Re: My Project
vishpish
As far as I know the set-up is BEAMS red top specific. If you speak to Jenvey or Toda, they do itb set-ups for the 3SGE -budget about £1,200-1,500 new from what I've seen + new ECU costs (unless you have one already capable of MAP).
Difference with l/w fly -0bhp, but throttle response should be quicker. itb's -I'd be happy with -0+1bhp but I've heard there has potentially been a huge gain on another Celica BEAMS, you're just increasing throttle response again primarily.

Re: My Project
Check out the dyno results. It's up there with some of the rev 2's last time I checked. But I don't think you can compare it with the tubby's -different driving style. Not going to add much with the itb's (if anything) but it should pick up much quicker. TBH though, we need to see it on the dyno when Rogue are tuning it to confirm exactly what it'll be like -otherwise it's all speculation at the moment.
Re: My Project
lol so is your car down at rogues the now?really like it down there had to send my car down after an idiot in ibrox who was doing my conversion(3sfe to 3sge) couldnt get it started.

Re: My Project
Yea, I read you were having a nightmare a while back. The car's actually only been there once so far (last May) for the swap -but I get really good service on orders and heaps of advice from them and I've had quite a few business trips down to Cambridge over the last 6 months so try and swing by for a chat. Half my family's from Leicester anyway so it's excuses to see folk. I also managed to make it down for the Toyota sprint series day near Grantham last year as well.
The car's in a local bodyshop for the next while -but hoping to book the car into Rogue straight after, and hoping it'll all be done by the end of April latest (work permitting). I know I've got the order wrong but I should have put the car in the body shop last year so I was adamant to get it booked in (been in 3 weeks now) -then build up parts for fiddling with the engine. I don't think there's any issues with Rogue scratching anything when it's down.
It's a long trip (1,200 miles return) but they're the folk that I trust, I've practically given up on doing things myself now -not enough time and everything always ends up half done.

Re: My Project
Well the bodyshop's had my car since the 8th January and apart from stripping it and flattening some of one side, they've managed to do the sum total of he haw to it in the last month since I last saw it. The new bumpers trial fitted on it -but I did that for the guy when it came.
The guy IS good at what he does -but I've told him today I'm expecting it back soon -he's 3 weeks over what he thought initially and if there's nothing done to it this time next week then I'll have a mahoosive can of whoop-ass with me, which will quite easily be opened up on him.
I'm more than a little hacked off since I saw that today.
Cars eh?

Re: My Project
Vish,
Actually, come last Friday Morning I was so burned out at work I had to take some time-off. I just had to get out of here so left Friday lunch time, E-mailed my boss I would be back on Wednesday. And went down to my mate in Aberdeenshire for a couple of nights (holy crap we sunk some booze!!) and my folks in Central belt on Sunday evening. Left Falkirk 8:30 this evening and back by half 11, have a day-off left tomorrow so going to sort some personal stuff out (worked most weekends since Xmas so not really had the chance properly so far).
I managed to order my ECU last week and sent off my ITB's to Rogue and my oil catch can for some adapting in the machine shop. I STILL haven't heard that the last few bits of trim have arrived. Kinda fed up with leaving my number with folk when parts are outstanding -promises to call back never seem to happen. Ho Hum though -haven't been home till now -maybe (fingers crossed) there's some parts sitting in work for me by now.
Picked up a new works car the other day though -black Navara (decent spec one) which was a real lift before I left. Must have done about 500miles on it since Thursday morning. MAN I LOVE THIS TRUCK. And it's nippy as hell, RWD all the way!!!! And it doesn't fit in any shops parking spaces which gives me an excuse for "Highland parking" again -45 degrees, takes up to 4 parking spaces in Tescos car park if I do it right. Yes, I'm that xxxx in the big 4x4 who doesn't care. At least I actually have real off-road mud on mine though!!

Re: My Project
Vish,
Back in work today -have to pass right by work travelling from home to get to the bodyshop so didn't go on my day-off. Just as well, one of the guys reminded me today that the guy has closed for a weeks holiday this week (I'd forgotten!) -so no idea whether anything's been done yet. Knew I should have gone last Friday but wasn't in the mood TBH.
Have seen you talking about body parts / modifying. Best advice I can give is to get a solid reliable car first (near-enough) first before doing any mods. There seems to be some folk who can do stuff for next to nothing but I can't claim to be one of them. You need to work out whether you want an N/A or a tubby then in my oppinion, settle on it and don't skimp. Get the work done well, with good quality parts. If you want a 3SGTE, likely you will want more anyway.
Who was quoting for gearboxes BTW? Have you spoken to the guys in Kenilworth?

Re: My Project
hey mate on monday go straight in there and find out exactly what this guy is up to!the days are getting longer- the suns coming out its all looking good! and you hav the best roads up there matey!

you make a very good point and after all the time and efforts put into getting the head gasket done/indcution kit/fitted mani and exhaust, the only thing left is the gearbox.ill give patrick a pm now!as for actually fitting the gearbox any ideas?i assume the engine has to be lifted on at least one side to get the gearbox mount out hmmm any ideas?

Re: My Project
...I can't remember about gearboxes now. Haven't looked at the car for a while so I can't remember. I just suggested Rogue because they advertise recon'd tubby grarboxes BTW. There should be other places you can get them from, depends whether you want to pay for something with a reputation or not I guess.
I got to the bodyshop last Saturday. Car's looking good though the paintwork still needs rubbing back -lovely deep colour though. Not all the other bits painted yet -think he still had the bumpers, bonnet, boot and engine lid left to go. Bit worried about the new trim I ordered, it doesn't look right off the car so far.
...anyhow, I hope to get it back in time for the 3'rd Aberdeenshire run at the end of the month.
I've asked the shop if the guy who's fitting a new windscreen can fit a graduated black sun visor at the top before it goes in as well. Always thought it was missing one.
...other than that a couple of new toys added to the garage raeady for the itb conversion:

...and my new seats, which I've had for 6 months but ordered the proper rails, they shoulld be here soon (apologies for the background clutter):
