glol, IRTA "I think I invested in the wrong format, and now i'm pi$$ed off."

You can't blame Sony for backing a superior format can you?

Like I have said on numerous occasions, I have neither an HD or Blu Ray player and am not in the camp of either. Could you imagine though if suddenly all ipods were odsolete after you'd invested heavily in them?

Adult video maker Digital Playground, however, which blasted Sony for making it difficult to manufacture Blu-ray blue movies last year, and has subsequently released 20 titles in the Toshiba-backed format (including Island Fever 4, Hush and Pirates), now says it will bail on HD DVD. It cites growing independent BD replication and authoring facilities and the emerging PS3 population as reasons for its switcheroo.

So a Porno film maker is now producing on Blu Ray rather than HD DVD. Is that because its a better format or is it just because they have identified that PS3 owners are all right hand jockeys? .....

boooom tish ....

:clown: :clown: :clown:

Cant see any reason for me to get Blu Ray or HD DVD at the moment. Lets face it DVD's at the moment come loaded up with a tonne of naff crap that you never watch. With 50gb to play with that means you will get even more rubbish crammed onto a disc that you will also never watch.

I have heard in the past that the porn industry sells so much they can make or break a format.

So as Bender says, our future is being guided by a bunch of right hand jockeys.

HD and bluray aint all that anyway, you can easily live with a SD dvd player as your HD LCD/Plasma will upscale the image. If you've got a screen smaller then 37" HD is pointless really as i doult you'll notice much difference considering the costs of HD and bluray.

This is coming from someone who has both and although HD-DVDs/Bluray do look great the cost of the dvds is still to high. I was looking at a combi player or bluray player and they started at £600, so i brought a PS3 40GB and a Toshiba Ep30 (with 7 hd-dvds) for £200. I didnt want to use the ps3 as a dvd player.

Now though i'm thinking should i be upgrading my amp so i can get dolby trueHD and DTS-HD audio.

If i put star wars on, on my 50" 1080p plasma it looks better then some HD-DVDs ive seen. Just trying to make the point that is it really worth the extra cost, some HD-DVD's just aint as good as others and some DVD's are just as good when upscaled.

HD players upscale as well so you get the best of both worlds?

Thats why i got my EP30 to play my dvd collection :thumleft:

Some people argue that you dont need an upscaling dvd player as the tv will upscale the image anyway but i find using a HD/bluray player for upscaling gives you much better results.

I've not seen a proper upscaled image. Apparently the 360 only does it when you use a VGA lead what ever that is.

VGA is just a pc monitor lead, my plasma wont accept any resolutions over 1280x1024 when using VGA. Bit pointless really you might aswell stick with component or hdmi.

Ive got a sony 7.1 amp which is basically the same as the sony strdg910 but without the hdmi support. Was thinking of getting a onkyo 605 or the sony 910. I use a 6.1 setup and everything is hooked upto it.

PC has direct and optical sound, Sky is stereo and optical, dvd player is optical, ps2 and ps3 is optical. Getting sky-hd first before i upgrade, might pop down to richersounds for a demo to hear the difference with DTS-HD and trueHD

With the additon of my 50" plasma ive spent around 5k on my system :?

the PS3 uses HDMI. It is an excellent upscaler.
