Hi - Mk1b Bought

Post by flak monkey »

Hi,

Thought I would start by introducing myself.

I am new to the world of MR2's as far as owning one is concerned. I know several people who have had Mk1's in the past, and they have all been great cars. I am now looking for a Mk1b T bar in good condition to use as a more practical daily drive than my kit car.

I graduated from warwick university last summer having completed my masters in manufacturing engineering, and now work as a project engineer for a manufacturing company in kings lynn, norfolk.

I spent the past 2 or 3 years building my GTS Panther, which is a bit of a road rocket (160bhp, less than 600kg, 0-60 in under 5 sec, handles better than almost anything else). http://gtslocost.locostsites.co.uk/finishedcar.htm

I hope to be able to learn a lot form these forums, and also I hope that I will be able to help out too.

Cheers,
David

I am collecting my Mk1b in a fortnight from LukeQuake as advertised on here. http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=85861 Went to have a look yesterday and was very impressed with the car, it's every bit as good as it looks in the pics :)

Hi David,

I hope you have as much pleasure driving this car as I've had over the past 18 months. I'll be very sorry to see it go!

Subject of topic now changed accordingly ;)

Regards,

Luke

Hi David,
First off - Congrats! It looks like a very good example of a car, and I reckon you've done well there! ;)
If you have any problems, just pop over to the Mk1 club:
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=25
And perhaps think about becoming a member of the Mk1 club as well - we do a fair few events (and I think they're looking for more members in your area!). If that's your sort of thing of course!

The Kit car looks awesome. Thanks to you I lost a couple of hours on Friday browsing your site... I'm hoping to build one myself one day (!) though may be doing it from scratch when (if) I ever do it... we'll have to see!

Anyway - I hope to meet you soon at an event!

Cheers,

Max

Hi Max,

I will join the Mk1 OC soon and will pop along to some of the meets. I dont think there are many people around my area. I cant remember the last time I saw another Mk1 on the road. Though there is a Mk2 at the bottom of my road.

As for building the car, do it! Its one of the best things I have done, it doesnt cost the earth (especially if you scratch build), and you'll have something thats incredible fun! You will also learn a lot, I know I did!

David :)

Hello from a locostforum lurker! I looked into building one a while ago and still pop onto the forum occasionally, thought I recognised the name.

Decided to go with a V6 transplant into my Mk1 instead, but will deffo be building a kitcar in the future when my welding skills are up to scratch.

Welcome again to IMOC. :thumleft:

Hi David,

I'm the area organiser for the MR2 Mk1 Club (see our little forum on here:))

It would be nice to have you as a member in our area. We try and meet up once a month, usually with the OC and IMOC, I also arrange meets at the MR2 Challenge at Snetterton, and convoys to national meets.

Lukes car is a great example, and it has been well looked after too. I'm sure he's pleased that it's going to a good home!

Also, if you need any bits, we usually have them!

See you around!

Hi Vix,

Thanks for the invite :) I intend to get joined up soon!

Are the local meets advertised on here or on the Mk1 club site or are they just a fixed day in the month in a fixed place?

David :)

Most of the meets are posted on IMOC and the OC and I also keep in touch with mk1 club members by letter or e mail.

Once the Mk1 Club wensite is up and running, that will be updated too.
