Driveshaft problems

Post by zero »

I have had a rattling sort of noise from the O/S rear wheel for a week or more.
So today had a good look to see if it was the bearing.
To my horror i have found 3 of the 6 bolts on the outer driveshaft have dropped out, and the remaining 3 were finger tight

While under the car i can now hear a clunk coming from were the driveshaft enters the gear box. Is this normal? (the car has LSD).

Any help appreciated.

drive shaft trouble

Post by adam maclean »

I had that problem last september. Driving it one morning and heard a slapping sound from the wheel arch. Also found out that all but two of the bolts had fallen out and one had caught and buckled. They can be replaced easily enough. They should be put on with threadlock. Get it done asap and DON'T drive it in the mean time. As for the clunking, I dont think its normal. Any one lick to correct/agree with me? Ive had a clunking on mine and thought it was the shaft. Did some work on mine yesterday but its still there so im afraid i can't tell you too much im afraid.

Thanks for the reply Adam.
I have put Loctight of the remaining bolts.
