Was this copper an idiot?

Post by tonigmr2 »

No I don't think they are all the same, some of them are probably quite nice. :o  But I really came up against one yesterday...

Speed limit 50 into a 60mph. So I accelerate up to 60mph once I pass the sign and see I am starting to catch the car ahead. As I get closer I see it's a copper in a 'normal' panda (he's not a traffic cop). I reckon he's doing around 50-55mph hence the catch up. Dual carriageway so I pull out to overtake. Guess what, numpty head now accelerates and starts to drive at 60mph once I am nearly level. Sorry but that REALLY annoys me. Now I am stuck in the outside lane and have to sit there to the next roundabout where he turns left. I think, should I lift off and pull behind then NO, I'm not speeding why should I??

I should add I think he did it to try and get me to accelerate just as a speed camera pops up in that stretch. Or to prevent me over-taking (most people go left at that roundabout, but I was going straight anyway). Why did he have to do that?? Am I being a touch over-sensitive or is he being an idiot?

You, as a mere civvy, dared to challenge his almighty power as a copper by not sitting at 50-ish behind him. A birching is not good enough for you.

Ha ha, feck him!! I am sure he felt I should sit behind him doing a lowly 50, that's what annoys me!

I imagine you supprised him! They just aren't used to people overtaking them you see, after all how many times have you been on the motorway or dual carriageway and a copper is sitting at 60 with dozens of cars behind them and no one dares pass them for fear of being pulled?

LOL I always overtake, I'm not scared of doing the speed limit! In fact it really irritates me when I'm blocked due to some twonk doing 65mph past him in the outside lane, LOL. Often on the Motorway I'll do 75mph (indicated) past a cop car, never had them even look!

lol... I literally said this yesterday when going up the M40.. saw what looked like a police car ahead, and everyone infront of me was suddenly sat at 60?

Still wonder why people feel the need to always sit at 10mph under the speed limit!

There are always a few police out there that have issues..not all tho!

Thats why I usually end up behind them waiting for them to turn off. Too much noise will attract their attention - have experienced it!

Same here Toni - personally if one is doing 85-90 I cannot see a problem following them (at a safe distance of course) :D

Idiot :!:

When I had my mr2 I got pulled once or twice a week and very raely broke the speed limit... due to being pulled all the time... but have experienced so many different excuses for being pulled, including, "Just checking why you were parking in this car park" and "Why's this insurance certificate so faint"... well it's 11 month old and I show it to one of you lot every five minutes that's why!

I reckon if a copper was sat behind me on a dual carriage way and someone else went by me only for me to acclerate upto the limit and make him sit alongside I'd be pulled in a flash. And if I did it to a copper going by me they'd do everything in their power to get me for something. Not that they could.

1 rule for us, another for them. But then my view is soured by me being in a crash caused by a coppers dangerous driving.

He was just hoping you would accelerate past him hence breaking the speed limit. He could have pulled you over for staying in the overtaking lane for too long, sounds like he was bored.

I would have accelerated to 65, indicated, and went past him. However only if i wasn't in the MR2, if i was in the 2 at an indicated 60 i am already doing 60 so wouldn't push it. In most cars 60 indicated is around 56.

Of course i would only have done this in a car where i knew how far out the speedo was. The wheels i have on the back came from a supra with the tyres that were on it so the rolling radius on my car makes the speedo read a little under the actual speed. At an indicated 70 i'm actually doing 72 according to the sat-nav. The other 2 cars show around 66mph at an indicated 70.

Always know your speedo :D A panda car isn't accurate enough to do you unless you are pushing it (say indicated 70 or so) and even then it would still be difficult.

I have dont this before now, Same thing, sped up to match my speed so i sped up, signaled and pulled in front, and carried on,

Single copper in an Astra, on go the blue lights

Window down
"Can you step put of the car"
"No Probs"
"Whd did you feel the need to speed like that"
"Like what"
"I was on the speed-limit and you sped up and pulled away from me"
"Oh did i, Hmm dont remember that, well i think you better show me then"
"Show you what?"
"The video you have of this on your Viscar System"
"Eerr thats not the point"
"Yes it is, you driving by your self, there are no witnesses, its late, you have no video equipment, your not a traffic cop, and your speedo is probibly not calibrated as a result of you not driving a traffic car. Now stop wasting my time and go and write your stupid little producer out, give it to me and go away"

Which he did, (I am 95% sure its the producer i signed suck me)

Its like the Traffic Officers or Motorway RAC Muppets, everyone drives behind them, i take grate plesure driving past the whole que at 100mph just to make a point (ITS NOT THE FKUCKING POLICE).

I cannot stand stupid, thick, and clueless drivers who hesitate and dordle around like sheep fkucking the whole system up and creating cues all over the show, because they set off 10 seconds after the car infront, well congratulations you have just created "Rush Hour" with this one little hesitation over 60,000 motorists we have got no chance in the morning and on the way home from work.

The traffic wombles aren't the Police, but they're in touch with the Police and if you do something suitably daft, you might find a real Police car waiting at the next junction ;)

I've had a similar situation when I passed an unmarked 306 in my ZX - they were doing 50, I planned ahead and passed at 60. Didn't know it was Police, they followed me for 7 miles then got out when I stopped.

"How fast were you going?"
"60"
"We were doing 60, you passed us"
"Is your speedometer calibrated? My car was showing 50 when I was following you"
"Um"
"Bye then :)"

The RX8 has had me stopped once for being "young, male and in a fast car" - lots of banter about their psychic ability (You were going to speed, you were only doing 60 because you could see us in the mirror...) and then they suddenly apologised and left when I pointed out how long I'd live here and my name.

The apology is what got me!

I did push it to just over 60mph indicated as yes I know it's really slower...but the fecker kept up with me. I really think he did this to stop me going ahead of him at the next left turn which 90% of cars take (but I was going straight on so that sodded that!)

Bah!

p.s. be careful, no vascar or calibrated speedo really needed if a copper feels like sticking his neck out...a copper's word will do as they are presumed to tell the truth. At least you'd have a court case to fight.

*nods*
First & last time I 'backchatted' some jumped up little xxxx (who was clearly bored) it earned me 3 points (PC20, utter utter BS) and a £60 fine - almost 5 years to the day as it happens - so I can *finally* stop having to declare it on my insurance, Christ knows how much that cost me over those 5 years in additional insurance premiums - all for a moment of minor satisfaction - definitely not worth it - nowadays I just act like they're the most important person I've ever met, stand in awe at everything they have to say and nod profusely - they usually lap this up and send me on my way.

I got pulled over in Cov on Saturday night for 'enthusiastic' driving, took a large roundabout at just below the speed limit (40) and was accelerating briskly up to the limit. Generally enjoying myself on some nice empty roads. 8)

Coppers said my driving was eratic and I was driving too quickly for the conditions. I just smiled, nodded, grovelled a bit and bid them goodnight.
