Does anyone know how to setup some way of monitoring the TVIS status on the 3sgte?

I want to know when they are open and closed.

wire an led across the teminals on the tvis vsv

There's a small vacuum control unit which opens and allows the vacuum from the tank to the servo which opens the valve.

Shouldn't be too dificult to rig up an LED on the dash to show you when it's active.

You would have to run some wires into the car though.

or wire directly at the plugs that go to the ECU. closer, easier to do and shorter wires.

since doing mine, i've seen the ECU in cold weather often decide not to use the tvis in its optimal role.

the tuneable/mapable rev2 ecu that Jeremy is doing, production just about to start ( see thread index ) should allow you to play with how the ECU decides to open/close the tvis. great stuff me thinks.

when i did mine, i also wired the TVSV valve, with tri-color LEDs, that way i can see the state of both, being openned or closed.

bit of an offish topic but,

If the vac pipe is diconneced from TVIS are the valves open or closed?

i.e vacum will close them boost will open?

they default to open, ie you loose bottom end torque like that. when the pipe or the electrical contact is open/unplugged.

yep, the little tank plummed inline to the tvis control valve hold a resivour of vacume.

when low rev's often the inlet plenum is working under vacume ( not boost ) so the little tank gets topped up ( it has a one way valve to stop it going back into the inlet plenum. then when the ECU reckons things are okay to 'up' the low end power, it opens the tvis valve, this sucks shut the tvis plates in the inlet runners, and bingo all (most ) of the airflow then goes down one pipe to the each cylinder instead of two... this speeds up the air, and helps mix the fuel better, thus helping low end power.

Hey Darryl, can you do a simple diagram or something how you wired this in, I have had a go, but nothing seems to happen....

I think inline is not the answer and was wondering how you connected the leds up also what type and size were the LEDs?

I guess the LED will light up when the TVSV is energised and full boost should be ok.

gives the idear to have a light on for low/high boost or open/close tvis.

i actually used bi-color LEDS, and used much the same wiring idear.


on mine, slow speed all good, its green/orange on the loud pedal, its orange/green ( they swap )

if both go orange at low or high speed, then ECU aint happy with something.
ie . its openning TVIS at slow speed to reduce the low end VE of engine ( looses power at bottom end ) and at high end, well boost really, if the TVSV doesnt go green ,then its running the lower actuator boost only.
