How should I finish the black metalwork? Mk1 question

What kind of finish should I use for this, and would it be worth just taking all this stuff off and getting the whole of the cars metalwork surrounds done?

I didnt think paint would be good enough, perhaps powder coat or something, I really dont know!

Roughen the surface slightly with fine wet&dry, then paint it

if you want to experiment without taking them off your car i have these bits on the car i'm breaking which i could send to you for the postage cost (providing they are simple to remove - can't imagine they're not?)

Yep, go for Satin Black - that's what I've resprayed the sills with and it looks fine.

Thanks for the offer scooter - I'll need to take it off anyway, as you can see theres some rust just behind it, so I'll have to attack it! I will try paint, I mean hey, whats the worst that could happen (hmm, I'm remembering a certain dr pepe r advert!)

Not seen rust there before on a mk1....had a bit on the front where the windscreen rubber surround had perished. I filled it with black silicone after treating the rust. Looks coo...almost unnoticable.
My surrounds like your have faded in certain areas but as Ben says I am going to spray them up with some satin black paint. I will do my windscreen wipers too.
