[Mk2] [NA] Refreshing a tired battery?

Post by MattMR2 »

Is is possible to refresh a battery that has lost its Ooomph?

Of course I know a battery can be recharged but is there anything else that can be done to revamp it like replacing the distilled water or something?

I replaced my battery a while back but kept the old one as a spare. The other day I left it charging for 36 hours and when I finally disconnected the charger it still didn't register as being full. This leads me to think the battery isn't much good.

Also I heard that once a battery has been allowed to run flat it may never run at peak performance again. Is that true?

Thanks,

Matt

basicaly yes it is true it will most likely be dead so i bite the bullet and buy a new one

also if you stored the spare battery on concrete that definately wouldnt have helped as it drains all the power right out of them

Concrete eh?
How strange. No I stored it in my shed which has a wooden floor.

You can buy acid pills from auto factors and along with some new distilled water, might and only might last a bit longer before spending £50

I don't think it's true.

The batteries need regular use else it'll die. When they don't get used, lead sulphate forms on the plates thus killing the batteries.

You could get those pills but deposits will still form at bottom of the plates.

How does putting it on concrete drain the battery?

c50 is right, if you got battery cancer on you plates just change it.

you can buy electrolite but there is no real point once the cells are dead there dead.

old wives tale ,used to be the case years ago

quote from the worlds leading battery manufacturer trojan

""• Storing a battery on concrete will discharge it quicker-
Long ago, when battery cases were made out of natural rubber, this was true. Now, however, battery cases are made of polypropylene or other modern materials that allow a battery to be stored anywhere. A battery’s rate of discharge is affected by its construction, its age, and the ambient temperature. The main issue with storing on concrete is that if the battery leaks, the concrete will be damaged.""
