dont know what code 47 is...

are you sure the battery isn't too flat to start the car but has enough charge to operate the solenoid...ie , the clack,clack,clack

jump starting isnt advisable, has been known to damage the cat ....

i used to get that in your old car cliff when id take 4hours washing it with the radio on id go to start it later and get clack clack clack was dead battery try charging off another car then starting it

Care to explain the logic behind that one as i would have to agree and say that I cant see how it could damage the CAT.

Indeed. Can't see how this would damage the CAT as all you're doing is giving your battery a boost. How is that different from starting the car normally? Sure it's not bump starting that would cause damage?

cos its chucking fuel thats aint being fired and can ruin the cat if you fail to bump it the first time

Funny that mate because I used to wash it every saturday, (I used to look after it ) and I NEVER had a problem with it.

When IK got it over from Japland, it came over with a dead battery so I was jumping it all the time.

I don't think I should have that problem with the CAT though, (tanabe decat), but thank you all for your concern.

surprised someone with your knowledge didnt know that, by bumping the car fuel will be going through the system until it catches and will in turn destroy a cat(if youve got one)...will contaminate and melt the honey comb core...

just ask any mechanic

jump starting = jumping = jump leads

bump starting = pushing = knackered

bump starting will send a bit of fuel down the exhaust and may ignite in the cat and melt it but the chances of it happening is slim.

Even bump starting wont damage the cat unless you a) do it for an aweful long time and b) do it when its hot. Petrol doesnt damage the honeycomb, but running rich over-heats the cat in normal use. If you regularly flood it, then fire it up and drive off then it may cause some damage over time, but its not something that should be avoided on the odd occasion that you leave your side lights on.
