[Mk2] [NA] Steering Rack Play?

Post by Cj82 »

Hi all

I have had my MOT on monday and i am told i have slight play in the ball joint on the offside of my steering rack

Can you change just the ball joint or do you need to replace the full rack?

Plus how easy is it to change?

Thanks

Are you talking about the ball joints on inner rack arms?
or the ball joints on the track rod ends?
or the ball joints themselves?

anyways all are fairly easy to replace and no you wont need to change the whole rack.

If your car is non power steering you can get the full rack for 30 quid from here www.buypartsbuy.co.uk you have to send them your old one once youve recieved it.

Ive just ordered myself one :thumleft:

you get the ball joint which screws onto the PAS rack, the rod attatched to it screws to your track rod end (19mm),

Ive just done mine!
