[Mk2] [NA] Help for a simpleton!!

Post by Caz »

Well my car didn't start yesterday and i know nothing about cars!!

It turns over just doesn't catch on. I have fuel and such like. It had been raining all day and i have just had a new clutch fixed (by Honda and not without its problems).
Unfortunately i know nothing about the engines of cars, im ashamed to say. Think i am quite lucky when i manage to put the key in the ignition!!!

Now i know there have been many posts for this problem but i would love it if someone gave me the very basic what to check remembering that i am a simpleton!!! I want to figure this out myself rather than ask a garage to do it for obvious reasons!!(beyond my pride)!

Any help much appreciated!!!

Thanks cz

Sounds like no spark !

If you undo the dizzy cap ( with the ht leads in ) i'll bet you 16p that its got water or damp in.

the leads that plug on the spark plugs go to a "dizzy cap" theres 2 screws you have to undo and the cap will come off. black thing with leads attached.

if you look in the knowledge base, you wont need to do an evening class !!!

Oh yes i do!!! I managed to look at my car (in the dark last night) and was so proud of myself when i managed to not only find my spark plugs but i took them out too...or so i thought. My mechanically minded mate then proceeded to tell me that i had done a great job of detaching the leads!!!  needless to say that did not fix my car!!
So he is going to come around on saturday and have a look for me.
