Central Locking

I have a D reg 2, and as far as I know it doesnt have central locking. Easy to fit some??

try to get the door trims out and locate & check the door locking motor...

I'm unsure if you should have central locking. I have a D reg and the key only locks the drivers door. You have to remember to use the door lock button on the drivers door panel first.

D reg will be a change over model and probably doesn't have the full central locking, it will be as "omracing" described.
I looked at the diagrams before for someone else and the problem is that the early cars don't have the switches built into the door locks the same as the later cars, if I remember correctly the wiring and the relay are also different, so it's quite a big job to convert to the later system.
A much easier way to do it is to buy a universal remote central locking kit, you can pick them up on ebay for £20/30, and interface it with the door lock button.

There are quite a few available, some with actuators, some without. You don't really need the actuators as there is a solenoid in each door for the locking CLICKY

All Mk1's had that switch, but on early cars only the switch that will will lock ( or unlock ) both doors, locking ( or unlocking ) the drivers ( or passengers ) door with the key will only lock ( or unlock ) that door
On later cars locking ( or unlocking ) any door with the key will lock ( or unlock ) both doors

I would reckon that it still won't lock both doors from the passengers door, have you tried it from the passengers side ?

^^^ Jimi - it was over three years ago, and I don't recall ever trying the passenger side door at that time (sorry). But full central locking was present from the drivers side rgds Huw

I'd expect it wouldn't as the passengers door lock wouldn't have the micro switch for the central locking, a later door would have the switch.
