[Mk2] [Generic] Is there any difference between hubs?

Post by draz1k »

Is there any difference between hubs with the different revisions of the mk 2?

my rev3 has had 2 wheel bearings in 5 months and it starting to go again, the last place said it could be the hub is mis-shapen and causing advance wearing. would a rev 1 /2 hub be a direct replacement or do i need to find a rev3 to break it off of?

any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

Front hubs are same all years, models and sides - if you click on part no here for left and right hubs (43501C/43502C):

http://www.ayrpark.plus.com/epc1/toyota ... _1993.html

You should get:
43502-17020 HUB SUB-ASSY, FRONT AXLE, RH 01.12.1989-01.08.1999 SW20

dont some have 2 holes machined into the casting,1 for a securing screw and the other to accept the abs sensor?

on non abs versions the raised area for the holes is visible, just that the holes have not been machined.

Hub and stub axle are one and the same thing. I think what yiur referring to is the steering knuckle which is what the outsoide of the bearing comes into contact with - see duiagram below.

http://www.ayrpark.plus.com/epc1/toyota ... _1993.html

If you click on part nos 43211 (RH) or 43212 (LH) you will see fitment here:

Looks like there is a dfference pre/post 1993 plus ABS changes - hope that helps! :-)

Are they genuine bearings and were they fitted by a professional mechanic? Would try somewhere else next time :-)

BTW You can convert non abs bubs to abs by replacing the spacer with the abs rotor - mention that in case someone is trying to by a 2bnd hand hub and needs an abs one.

Ah right - if itrs a complete assembly its whether the steering knuckle is suitable - I'm not 100% sure but reckon you can put an ABS one instead of non ABS but not other way round :-)
