Do a search mate, I saw a thread somewhere about this and there is a wire you can remove to prevent this from happening, I will be looking for it myself before too much longer as its annoying me too.

Hi Sakura, this function was put in place to allow maintenance of the head lamps - bulb changing etc, so if you put the lights on dipped beam, then turn the stalk back to the dot, the pop ups will stay up but lights will be off...

I did this mod ages ago and put a switch in place too so I can still change bulbs etc. Are the pins not marked with numbers at all? I don't remember cutting a coloured wire, I just cut the actual metal pin, 6. Can try and take a pic at the weekend if that will help - it would show which pin to cut at least...?

Great and easy mod, did mine at least six years ago with the switch.

However, I've managed to pull the wire out of the blue box so now they always go down. Had to pull the battery out while adjusting the headlight sitting levels, but I'll plug it back in soon.

i can see why toyota did this with the one notch up, but cant see why they didnt make them go down after so many seconds on dipped beam.

I used to have a '91 mazda 323F with pop up lights. It had a button on the dash which when activated the lights popped up and stayed up regardless, and when not activated they worked as the mr2 does after that wire is snipped.

That was a fun car to drive, never felt like it had only 90-ish bhp. IIRC the 0-60 was in the late tens!
