Had a great time - Good to meet everyone there :)

They gave us a quick talk through what we'd be doing, the principles and then we split into a couple of groups going into each car - FWD J Reg Escort or or Sierra RWD car - with an instructor.

We then all got chance to drive and work through what the instructors had demonstrated, and get a feel for different avoidance techniques, and correction techniques for different skids.

Bet part was being left alone for ~15 minutes at the end of each session so you could get chance to try it for yourself in your groups with no instructor in the car.

Had to be said that the Escort they had there was one of the worst FWD cars I've ever driven - it would just understeer tragically (apart from when the handbrake was used) and was really difficult to 'feel' the changing grip on the skidpan through the steering to work out when you should add or remove steering lock.

The RWD Sierra though was excellent (even if running on 3 cylinders and backfiring nicely!) and you could induce power oversteer and go from understeer to oversteer, and if you were feeling brave try to hold the car in a powerslide - difficult as the level of grip varied across the skidpan and so you'd have a nicely balanced car and suddenly it would get a lot more slippery ending up with you needing a few additional armfulls of opposite-lock.

I've got a few photos and some video footage that we all took of each other using my camera - Not had chance yet to look through it all, but will post any footage up in due course ...

Agreed, I learnt a fair few new things in both the Sierra and Escort. Took a few photos which I'll try to sort when I get a chance and will post up one or two... (though it's generally of a Sierra going at 3mph... lol)

A great day - thanks very much for organising it Ben!!! :thumleft:
