[Mk2] [Turbo] Headlight not popping up

Post by terminater2_uk »

I've done a search and read lots of topics but cant find a definitive answer.

Passenger side headlight doesnt pop up when I switch my lights on.
The lights work, just doesnt lift up.
Drivers side pops up so it cant be the fuse as that works both.
Lifts up manually fine so nothing obstructing it.
When lifted manually it goes down when I switch off the lights so it cant be the motor.

I'm stumped guys :(
There's talk about relays for each motor but I'm bu88ered if I can find any.

had the same prob, it was the disc on the side of the moter,
ther is a round cap with two screws holding it on, take the cap of and give the brass disc a good clean with 1000 grade wet n dry.
it worked for me.

Before stripping the rotary switch it's worth checking that there is no corrosion in the connector... wind the headlamp up and remove the actual lamp. To remove the pop-up assembly there are two set screws behind the hinge line, accesible from above with the bonet raised, One set screw into the side of the luggage compartment, accesible fom above with a spanner, and one other screw that I suspect you have to remove the undertray to get at.... or you can just get by leaving it all in place!
The connector is just under the lamp unit, 5 pin with a latch. On mine one of the three swich pins was broken.
You should also check the connector at the control unit end (blue box just behind the passenger side light)

Its also worth checking your black plastic headlight surround. It could be bent on the edges a little and cause it to get stuck under the bonnet when you switch the lights on.

This happened to me before a few times

It was the wiring plug. One pin had snapped. Cut the plug off and joined the wires and its working fine now. Cheers guys.
