I did this conversion 6 years ago... was the first to have the AE92 spec engine in a MK1 in the UK.

One thing i will add. It is essential to use a rising rate fuel pressure regulator if you are using the NA fuel pump. This is because it will run lean on acceleration otherwise, due to the fuel pressure being lower on the SC fuel rail pressure regulator and the NA fuel pump not having the flow capacity of the SC one.

An FSE power boost valve will do the trick, but you must set it up on the rolling road.

As for scoops, the ducting i did has so far been the most effective in lowering charge temps using the stock intercooler. Its easy to do if you are even slightly handy with shaping some ally sheet.

Cheers Mart hopefully that will be useful to him, Have sent him the link for the topic so hopefully we'll here directly from the expert rather then me getting the messages all confused.

Thanks also Lauren have bought an SC fuel pump if I can be bothered with the whole tank dropping business otherwise FSE valve it is.

Am not even thinking about ducting and engine lids right now as until the engine is running it's all a bit meaningless! Thanks also for the posts regarding these.

I really hope this can be made to work and am very grateful for the whole helpful community that exists here :)

Cheers,

Have spoken to Stuart and he's not been well with man flu (had it myself as well, not nice!) but he's working on it again.

He's had a look at Mart's post but the differences to what we have even as an AE92 are so great it is difficult to apply the info. Apparantly the colours are all different the circuit board doesn't match the ECU, it may have been a one off or a weird import somewhere.

He's plugging away at it and hope to get somewhere soon.

Thanks all again..!

Good news!

A spark has been acquired and it now starts up adn runs for approx 10 seconds before cutting out.

Stuart started it up for me over the phone and it sounds good! :)

Hopefully it will be completed soon(tm)!

More Good News!

It lives, it lives! All running now, Stuart found a broken wire in the engine loom. It runs, sounds awesome apparantly and is fearsome as expected!

Apparantly eninge is from a 1987 Trueno Sprinter a slightly different model to the LEvin (pop up headlights).

No heating issues just some tidying up to do, engine bay fan sensor to fit from the old engine (always on atm) Should have it back next week or so.

Phew! Thanks for all your hard work Stuart and all the posters for their help

Pictures soon!

Good stuff, Jack. :+:

FWIW the engine bay fan isn't that important. You could leave it disconnected with no ill effect.

Have the car back now and it's great! Picking it up from the garage tomorrow after some fine tuning and caliper cleaning for it's mot retest (failed the first one on handbrake).

I'll hopefully post some pictures of it after this weekend.

Good news Jack! :D

Sounds like you've had a bit of a nightmare with it, but it's all worth it in the end :thumleft:

Yuppers it's been well worth it. Great fun to drive and seems to be running well too.

Ollie, I'm actually based in Hants, not too far from Guildford. Watford is where I had it wired. I would love to go to some meets but will prolly keep it closer to me, look up the Guildford ones etc, thanks for the invite tho'!
