If your budget is that tight Nick, I would seriously think about holding off for a bit.

The cost of the paint in the grand scheme of things is going to be next to nothing.

You consumables are likely to cost a fair bit more

(filler, wet and dry, masking etc)
I'm not sure what it costs a litre these days but it can't be that much.

Shop around a bit to get the best price.

Also, what was this cheap paint? Was it 2 pack, cellulose, acrylic?
You need the right stuff for the job or you could have major problems with reaction and what have you.
