Selling a mk1 mr2, how hard?

The mr2 is going soon but i'm not looking forward to selling it because of two things, one because i do love it lots but the VX220 will be coming next year and two it seems people just dont want to spend top money for good examples.

I was hoping to get around £1600-1800 for mine but i cant see that happening.

Its a mk1b with 115k on the clock

New disks and greenstuff pads recently fitted

6 month service upto 97k, then serviced by myself
Passed last 4 mots

Slight scratch on front bumper and small dent in bonnet

May just have to keep it if i dont get the right money.

Probably not what you want to hear, but have you got the original parts for the shocks, steering wheel, exhaust etc? You could then sell these bits off separately and make more money if you can return them to standard.

People don't seem to want to pay extra for these bits it only makes it more desirable against other cars.

I disagree.


The prospect of a stainless exhaust and decent shocks is way better than a 20year old ride and a back box that rusts through.

As for price I have no idea, it mmay take a while to sell, but hold out for the price you want (or as near too)

I personally think this is the best selling point nowadays as most home mechanics can sort out the rest.

If thats the worst of the problems I wouldn't worry. The car has been round the block a few times after all.

I don't think you'll have to many worries asking towards £2000 for it, if it's as you describe. You just have to wait for the right buyer who appreciates what they are buying into rather than a kid who wants a cheap sports car.

Altho i cant help but think ive had more fun working on the car than paying decent money for a nice example! Even if its actually costing me possibly more...

Dont sell on the ' bay tho! Everything seems to get undervalued on there

This is the problem. I'm currently looking for a 'mint' mk1 (not overly fussed about mechanical stuff. I've got the tools, ability and parts to fix anything that needs doing on that side. I'm just looking for the best shell I can get). The problem being that many sellers idea of 'mint' differs from mine and although i'm prepared to pay good money for the right car i'm not prepared to spend my weekends travelling the country to see cars which aren't as described.

I got £1600 for my MK1a NA with 130K on the clock. Similar spec to yours with koni's and a magnex and K&N.

Why don't you put some pics up?

If i was you i'd get the bonnet sorted... dents on panels don't help sales.
