Allow me to introduce myself...now with pics!!!

Post by adrianl7 »

Hi everyone,

I’ve made a few posts on here already but have just realised I should probably have introduced myself first!

My name’s Adrian, and I am the proud owner of a Mk2, Rev 2 NA. I bought it last Sunday from Ross (rossdymond3352) and have been smiling ever since! Unfortunately, due to working in the city, I have not really had as much quality time with the car as I would have liked, but I did get to drive her home on Sunday which took about 3 hours. And what a great journey that was!!!

The car itself is awesome, Ross did a lot of work on the engine himself and it feels very fit. It also has one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard, I knew within about 5 seconds of hearing Ross open her up for the first time that there was no way I was going home without the car. All it needs now is a bit of a clean and tidy up, so I have dedicated this weekend to exactly that. Got a couple of small rust patches to sort out, and after that it’s going to get the cleaning of a lifetime! I will take some pics when I’m done!

I’ve had a couple of questions about the car already, and between Ross and some of the other guys on here most of them have been answered straight away. Seems like a great forum full of helpful and friendly people, I feel lucky to have found it.

Right, well that’s the end of my waffling, thanks for reading and pictures will be added at the weekend!!

Cheers,

Adrian

Excellent! Thanks Martin!! I was going to try something similar but ran out of time at the weekend. It does sound fantastic, I love the whistle at light throttle, and I love how it gets drowned out when you floor it!!!

Okay, pictures at last! Took me a little while I know, but I can really only use the car at weekends due to work, and so it wasn’t until a week after I bought the car I could actually clean her!

Anyway, I’m really happy with how it turned out. Probably should have taken a ‘before’ picture, as I was a bit naughty and let her get pretty dirty. Still, the black has come back, so to speak. Also had to tidy up the rubber seals as they had turned white, and I made a sneaky mod to the sills in order to cover a small rust hole and general colourless texture. Anyone spot what it was?

Aside from that it was fairly routine – wash and dry, polish and wax. Also went to work with a touch-up pen from Halfords and an interior cleaner to boot. Only thing I forgot was the windscreen. Doh! Took my brother and I the best part of 5 hours in all (cheers Dan!) but it’s time well spent in my book. Any and all comments welcome!!

Hehe well i bought some cloth tape, and just covered the hole. But then I realised that, despite looking hard, I couldn't actually see the tape. So, to get rid of the discolouration on the sills I just used the cloth tape lengthways! A bit unorthodox maybe but it did the trick!

Hopefully I'll grab some skirts at some point, but it's cost me an arm and a leg just to fix a couple of bits so they'll have to wait. It's in the garage now until Saturday, but should be tip top when she comes out! :D

Cheers for the kind words everyone!

She's coming out of the garage that I checked her into last Sunday tomorrow, can't wait to get behind the wheel again. I'm hoping the new brakes won't need much bedding in so I can really enjoy it.

I'm thinking of making a little video (been inspired by Martin's one, you see) if I can as well...watch this space!

Of course, after all that driving the cleaning will start again!! I've bought some trim cleaner, as I want to go to work on the splitter and the strange diffuser-esque thing at the back. Also gotta clean the windscreen and apply a bit of paint to the front bumper - then I think she'll be up to scratch. :thumleft:
