De-cat - worth it?

Post by dawolf »

Just wondering whether it would be worth getting a decat pipe on an N/A car? I heard it can affect torque but when I had one on a GTI it seemed to rev a lot better and the exhaust sounded well nice and deep. What do people reckon?

Not too sure how it affects other MR2's but most 'Cats' are restrictive for the airflow. Even if you don't get any power gains your sure to notice it'll rev more freely.

you'll lose a bit or torque but it'll rev smoother.

de-catting works best on turbo cars allowing better flow and quicker spool for the turbo

I did a de cat a few weeks back on my NA. You lose a little bit of torque but it does rev better after 4k . Sounds cool too ;)

Can't speak for N/As but I did seem to lose a bit of torque when I changed my exhaust and got a de-cat on the turbo. However it certainly revs better and lets you get to the boost quicker = quicker in the real world 8)
