Regarding overtaking in general, I think if you need the cooperation of the person you're overtaking then you're not doing it right.

Basically, you put a move on them in such a way that there's absolutely f**k-all they can do about it.
I did my ROSPA advanced driving thing a few years ago and one of the few things that I particularly remember being told over and over again was that aggresive driving is bad but assertive driving is good and makes for safer driving.

My point was that accelerating to stop someone overtaking you is sheer and utter idiocy.

I agree, often get it in the mx5 from basically almost every driver of anything that is generally regarded as fast, fortunately I have yet had to pull back in behind anyone.

Think people see whats regarded as a slow car come up behind them so they think "he must be pushing that, lets have a play" when the reality is i'm not even slightly "pushing it" just travelling much quicker than them so when I go to overtake they are thinking i'm a knob for ragging the car to try to pass their "fast" impreza/ BMW, Porsche, Audi, Toyota etc with my slow mx5, they are just ignorant.

Sounds like the same thing here, Porsche driver thought slow toyota better pass him, fast toyota driver thought slow porsche not letting him pass.

Well guys ive had a good experience here...

Was following a porsche Boxter up the dual carriage, was quite clear the porsche wanted a play.

Anyway we joined onto the motorway via the slip and we both went for it seen the spoiler come up then gradually I went past. Now I looked over to the left and it was a female driver and she just smiled! made my day.

People need to chill out a bit; it's an enthusiasts website for sports car owners, and there's a thread called driving experiences??

It's like you're just setting the bait and waiting for a catch. There was nothing illegal done, and recklessness is an objective test - a parkour expert jumping from a tall building seems mindlessly reckless to me, but not to his peers.

It just seems that this thread is around purely for people to have other members boost their ego whenever they do something which they think is chivalrous or courteous.

Plus, what's with all the threads with Evo drivers this, Scooby drivers that, etc?? As a relative outsider, I think that's what paints the bad picture of IMOC, and MR2 drivers - not the odd post where someone actually drives like they enjoy their car.
Lets face it - no one buys a tubby to let certain over-inflated Porsche drivers career past them, so why not post to let others know, perhaps even without risk of the autocratic teachers sending them outside the classroom.

There's nowt wrong with fluffers by the way... it's a living isn't it?

You get cnuts driving any kind of car. I haven't noticed any particular attitude from Boxster drivers.

Personally, I still reckon Audi drivers are the biggest nobs on the road, in general.
It's as if they have a huge chip on their shoulder about driving a german car that isn't a BMW or Merc'. You can almost hear them saying "You think you're f**king smart driving that BMW but my car is ACTUALLY superior!!!" as they tailgate you down the motorway at 80mph.

These driving posts used to be fun but constructive to read but now people are just going too far with their comments. It seems like IMOC is changing lately, maybe MR2 owners are changing into a more immature and judgemental group of people. Not saying what Amelio did was right or wrong as I wasn't there to see it.

If someone says they beat something half decent, everyone pipes in and says how "he wasn't giving it any", or "he was playing around"... yes, well we're not at the strip so maybe he was just a crap driver, or wasn't trying - does everything need to be justified...

If someone says they beat something crap, then they're either chasing small fry or have done something dangerous...??

There's always some excuse, or some reason why the poster is wrong or useless and it reminds me of those annoying people in life who, when you tell them a story, they have always done it - but better than you... the kind of person no one likes...?

The way i see overtaking tho, i NEVER do it unless i know i could blow the car infront into the middle of next week regardless of what the driver may or maynot try. The chances of the driver being a fool and speeding up is too great to risk. Besides anyone in a sporty car stands a higher chance of being a more aggressive driver thats going to take overtaking personally!

Exactly. This is why posting up stories of "i beat so and so" are utterly and wholly pointless.

Far more interesting than "I went for a drive today and it was delightfull."

I think SpongeBob is saying "why do people have to moan about stories" rather than "stories are pointless".

People like talking about relative performance, and enjoying their fast-cars that's all. What else would you talk about under "driving experiences" on a sportscar forum really? "Some old man pulled out infront of me?" or "I went to the shops in my car, is was great".

People like to have a spirited drive and impart some of the fun they had onto the forum and feel a bit special about it, that's all
