[Mk2] [NA] Automatic Window screwing up window electrics

Post by KrisMoyse »

Got a slight problem with my MR2.

It's 1991 J Reg MR2 Mk2 GT T-Bar (NA).

Everytime I press the driver's window button so it uses the 'automatic' open feature it goes right to the bottom then I hear what sounds like the car lock, then unlock. When I try to use any of the buttons on the switch panel again (windows, door lock, window lock, mirrors etc) nothing works.

The doors don't actually lock, just sounds like the actuator is locking them, then unlocking them.

The only way to get the windows to work again is by opening the door then closing it again, pulling to a stand still, switching off the engine, or pressing the window up button while the door is open and even then these methods don't work first/every time.

It's beginning to be a pain in the a**e. My old car didn't have electric windows so it's kind of a novelty to me lol and a feature of my new car that I love but I hate not being able to use that button, it comes in handy! lol. Pressing the button lightly till the window gets to the bottom is just frustrating ](*,) lol

I do have an aftermarket Thatcham 2 Immobiliser fitted which I thought may have something to do with it. I've also considered changing the switch panel.

I've yet to take the door card off and see if I can see any switches shorting but was curious if anyone could help on here or has had a similar problem...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Kris.

Odd. I would try replacing the switch unit first. Hopefully there is someone near you who can let you do a quick swaperoo with theirs and see what happens?

Just thought I'd post the solution to this.

Got it fixed Saturday, turned out it was bodged wiring inside the rubber tubing that connects the door to the A-Pillar.

If anyone else has this problem or something similar PM me and I'll give you more details.

Glad to have it fixed now lol
