1991 UK MR2 N/A

Post by Zee »

Model: MR2 UK Rev1
Age: 1991 - H Reg
Mileage: 103664
MOT: New MOT about a week ago.
Price: £1399
Location: Leeds

I bought this MR2 as my first dabble into the "sports car" market, main reason for the N/A was due to insurance, which is still pretty expensive :(

I won't bore you with a long story but it was purchased from a garage who had never registered it, so it only has one previous owner.
It was totally stock, but upon purchase I noticed that the exhaust was pretty loud which turned out to be blown. So I used this as an excuse and purchased a Mongoose exhaust with a De-Cat pipe from fensport, and a few service parts that are suggested.

Exhaust & De-Cat Pipe: £295.00
Custom Flexi-Section: £50
Fitting: £200

Toyota Forlife Coolant: £13.00
Distributer Cap: £31.00
Rotor Arm: £5.25

Now the car was running sweet so I thought I'd dump the stock air intake, and replace it with a K&N filter performance kit.

K&N 57i: £65

Clear Sidelights: £80
Clear Indicators: £20

The car's always ran perfect, and I havent had a major fault with her at all.
The couple of minor faults I've had have been the speedo cable, and the gear linkage cable snapping.
Due to the gear linkage snapping my clutch also went, so I also got all those replaced about a year ago.

Clutch: £92
Fitting £200

Lexus style rear lights: £175

About a year and a half ago some tried to break into the car and totally messed up the driver side lock, and scrathed the door pretty badly, and dinted it also. So I replaced the door. Being a replacement door the key didnt fit, so I've also had a thatcham approved alarm fitted (Cobra, not sure of model atm, but have the certificate). Remote unlocking it way better than with opening with a key anyway ;)

Thatcham Alarm: £200

Other "bad" points to note are a scraping on the rear bumper, where someone tried to park close by but ended up brushing against my car. It's not really noticable at all with a little polish. DSC_0016.JPG shows this bit of the bumper.

I've also added some genuine LockWood dials.
LockWood dials: £50

What else...
The drivers side wing got smacked with a trolly and had a HUGE dent in it, so I had to replace that. During the replacement one of the bolts holding it into place snapped, so I had to drill new holes to fit it in. It's ever so slighly off, which you can only tell if you're looking for it! DSC_0015.JPG shows this.

The paintwork is tidy but not perfect, but keep in mind it's a 15yr old car! There's a few stone chip's, but it shines up really well as you can tell from the pictures.
There's a small chip in the windscreen that's been there since I bought the car, it's doesn't pose a problem, and isn't a fail on the MOT.
It can be seen on DSC_0014, in the middle of the windscreen towards the bottom.

I've kept up with regular servicing, using Castrol oil, or Mobile One, and used the best gear oil, RedLine MT90, highly recommended by many MR2 enthusiats and by myself now! I've always tried to put in Shell Optimax, but if for some reason I can't then it's always Super, I never fill with anything else.

20-09-05_1709.JPG, and 20-09-05_1712.JPG show what the girl looks like with some aftermarket rims on a nice sunny day!

I don't let anyone smoke, eat, or drink in the car, so the interior is superb, as shown in DSC_0024.JPG.

In the few years of my ownership I've NEVER had a failed MOT, and it's always passed with no problems what-so-ever.

Phew, I think that's all of it, just done this from memory, so if somethings missing I'm sorry!

A few people have viewed the thread...
Is there any advice on how I can make this more desirable, or any info anyone wants to know?

PS (too add to the desirability)
I've got a VS style bodykit lying around in the garage.
I can chuck that in 2, or sell it separately for a couple hundred quid. Includes, front bumper, rear bumper, spoiler, and skirts.

Cheers

If it were me mate I'd look to be selling it elsewhere. Car looks fine and the money about right for 1 owner and low mileage (for it's age) but most people here are prob looking for something quicker/rarer and your competing with loads of similar or 'better' cars. It's a great place to buy from but a poor place to sell from...
Also you dont state which wheels it'll have on and most importantly whether or not it has a FSH or FTSH or no documented SH at all?
Get more info up and stick it on ebay, I would if I were you.

Good luck and a free bump!

Cool, thanks for that m8, I guess autotraders / fleabays the place to go then!

As for the SH theres nothing documented as it's been done regularly by a local mechie at first then by myself after.
As for the wheels they come on the car, with the standard alloys thrown in also!
