The Spider cover is much larger than a standard cover, I sold one to a member on here who is planning to make a smaller version to fit standard mr2's

Thanks Salim,

Was it just in the width i.e. encompasses the side engine covers too, or larger than that. How about length-wise?

Spider cover

Post by Tom Solan »

Sorry to tell you but you won't be able to fit the engine cover from a Spider 'cos the buttresses are in two parts. One bit lifts with the cover the other stays in situ. If you graft the lfiting bit on to a std car then the parts on the lifitng bit will foul the rear window and prevent anythnig like full lift.
I've got a couple of Spiders and have looked at this "problem" See pics on www.nvicars.co.uk

Thanks Tom...... for dashing my dreams

I'll just have to hope that something comes out of the one that Salim sold.

If it had been possible I was thinking of replacing the vents on the sides of the raised sections with perspex as I really do want some way of showing off the engine, although the 355 stlye also floats my boat.

Just have to stick with the Tubby one for now, but my wallet thanks you.

Cheers

Its possible to get that lid fitted as I discussed it with a few body shops and it could be one but would costs ££££. The new owner of the lid was planning on making some copies to recalim some monies back.

I will highlight this thread to him for his comments.

If you after a 355 style lid, I bought one from EP Racing, but its not cheap but the quality is really good, might be some pictures of it on my old car in the for sale section.

and the third alternative the ebst one, design one and make one yourself, the hardest bit is the motivation.

I have plans to modify the Spyder lid.

Currently it tapers the wrong way in terms of shape...so you cant even cut the sides to match the shape of the standard mk2 engine bay because it would cut into the raised vents.

Its something I'm still looking at but I have created several designs so its in development.

The lid will probably be fully removeable (best idea) or i will fabricate special hinges so you can 'pop' open lift slightly and pull away from the rear window then lift so the 'humps' dont foul the rear window.

If i do make the lid I will only produce it in limited numbers to keep it a bit special...on the other hand i may just make one out of carbon fibre

Depends on demand to be honest...either way i will make one!

Thanks Salim,

Don't worry, I had a good drool over your car and loved everything, real shame you had to sell it. My car's abit of an ebay special so I'll have to wait until they come on general release if you know what I mean.

Good luck Rich, even if you just make your CF one you'll still have the mould to make more!!!!

Thanks All
