[Mk2] [NA] my '2-was it all a big mistake?

Post by vishpish »

hey guys jus nearing the end of ahuge journey just to get my mr2 an mot!consider yourselfs lucky :D

i was close to buying a turbo end of last year but realised i would die if i got behind the wheel so gave my money to my mum for windows!and then saved up £400 and bought a red mr2 that i hadnt heard move/go/ and didnt really know if any electrics etc worked or if there was rust...i only really saw the front and the drivers side cus it was wedged to a corner :D

anyway cut a long story short...i kept it since february saved money up bought the 15"s from an mr2 nnew turbo brakes/calipers/pads/hoses and tried and failed at fitting them with my mate!

so i earned enough money and instead of repairing the blown head gasket on the crappy 2l 3sfe 119bhp engine, i decided to engine convert....now i got a 2l na from a rev2 because i wanted to ease myself into rear wheel drive.

so now im here new engine in and over a grand later the engine fires and works a treat...just got some welding to do and the guy will send it in for an mot by friday a big big day lol!

my heads been a wee bit up my own backside with this beauty just running from scrappy to scrappy getting parts and praying they work and after buying about 3 power tools to get the bango bolt from the brake line and still breaking it arghh!!
i mean my mate talks about saving mr2s but i jus feel ive worked myself stupid just to get her moving whether it was a stupid stupid thing to do or possibly a great appreciation for my first car.i only had £400 back in february and i was craving for an mr2...

the money ive spent i could quite easily afford a turbo but would i want any other '2...probably not!sorry for the moan just clearing my mind im a very confused kid....hope all goes well friday if he gets the welding done  comments welcome...cheers hope to come to meets soon lol

i'm rebuilding a mates mr2 after years of drifting in it.
new engine (with the hassle of going from rev1 to rev2 and loom issues)
all new brakes
all suspension bushes replaced with poly
6"x3" hole welded up in the front right chassis leg where the antiroll bar mount had ripped a huge chunk of car off!!
new track rod ends (you could get about 9* of turn from the left one just due to the wear!!)
de mould the inside of the car! ended up stripping it out anyway so this saved some time
3 new engine mounts
weld up hole in exhuast back box
stop boot lid leaking
new rear tyres
4 new antiroll bar drop links
full service on engine
etc etc etc

its been hard work and i've spent a lot of time at the toyota parts desk in town. but it's nearly all done now. hope to have it running this weekend.
mot then tax.. then more drifting no doubt.

good effort for your first car mate. its a lot of hard work. i think you will enjoy your car once its on the road and the things you learnt while building it will help you from now on! wish i knew enough to do all that work when i had my first car.

Good work, I dare say after you've driven it for a couple of weeks you'll love the car and want to upgrade to a turbo or even go V6... the MR2 bug will get you.
