My mate picked his brand new ST3 up yesteray, I'll be showing him how to drive come the weekend.

On his behalf I joined the Ford ST Owners club.

The bluefin IMO is a genius peice of modern technology. It plugs into the diagnostic port (or OB something)

It instantly changes the setting on the ECU changing fueling AND boost taking power from 222bhp up to 271bhp.

Not bad for a £600 bolt on mod that Ford will still honour the warrenty for!

AND it can be updated when you do further mods.

For 300 HP your looking at a full exhaust, sports cat, intercooler upgrade and further enhancement for the Bluefin.

There IS power to be made in these - the let down isnt the engine - it's the FWD.

As for the RS Focus - friend of a friend had one with 385bhp and THEN he fitted a gigantic turbo and fully built engine. It hit something like 450lb of torque and the RR couldnt even measure the BHP..

Never ever ever underestimate a turbo powered Ford - there are a xxxx lot more people who have perfected the art of eeking power from them here than our cars.

Some of us have only just started breaking the 400 - 500bhp barrier.

Fords have been doing that AND THEN SOME since the 90's

Heck the RS200 was 600+ bhp from the factory if you were lucky lol

How did he manage to get 150bhp extra without increasing the turbo? I really don't get that, i know the RS's are known for being bullet proof but surely the small turbo thats in the RS would run out of puff WAY before that. I understand that fitting a huge turbo to the car will lift the BHP but thats the same on any car. The big thing with the ford RS's is the internals and the ability to do that with mostly bolt on mods.

Read they are 13psi standard @222bhp so to get 163 more BHP would take a bit of work.

Sorry should have made that clearer. It did have a bigger turbo and then he fitted an even bigger one.

I was drivin along in my mk1 (no mods exept magnex exausht) the other day with a orange ST in front of me and lots of straigt road!! Any way got up close behind him to see if he wanted to go a little sure enough he did lol my car kept up easily and im sure he was going for it coz we got up to some nice speeds!

Sorry, I was out in my mates the other night and they are much quicker than any NA MR2.

While rolling I think it would give a standard rev1/2 tubby a run. Deffo not off the line.

They're 225bhp and have a kerb weight of 1,390 kgs - aprox the same as a tubby.

Oh and the noise they make is superb.

I've never heard one properly but there's a local one that is pretty much as fast as my 350z up until big numbers. It looks pretty modded though.

As soon as a turbo is added to any car its hard to tell what they are pushing out. Take the 2 for a perfect example. We have everything from 120bhp to around 650bhp lol.

just fitted a gt28 and awaiting r/r mapping but will report back more when i know

I had a clown attempt to race me off the lights when I was in the mazda, left him so easily by a huge margin, really silly amount kind of like when you see 1/4's with say a 400bhp tubby running against a stock n/a, muppet didn't get the message though I had stopped accelerating at 80mph and started cruising along, he obviously had to get past me so must have kept his foot down for an extra half mile to catch and pass me probably at 120ish.

Do they still have unsafe engines? Can the valves meet the pistons? With that money why not buy a reliable honda and with the spare change mod the engine?
