[Mk2] [Turbo] MR2 Turbo vs Impreza Turbo?!

Post by dellams »

My mate has an impreza with about 250bhp I think due to boost computers. But I still get the feeling I could beat it in a straight line but he would win on a track due to his 4 wheel drive.

What do ya think?

The Subura is a deceptively (spelling) light car for it's size/body shape.

I remember a LONG time ago one of the motoring magazines tested it to 60 and it was something like low 5 seconds. Don't underestimate a car like that with 4wd!

Hmm, not that im an authority on these sort of things, but your rev1 looks pretty stock and against a 250bhp impreza my money would be on that i think. More power and 4wd to get it off the line quicker - but im probably wrong! :clown:

Yeah my mate found out that his car is actually lighter than mine! I would have sworn mine would have been lighter but then again his is newer so made out of newer material. Probably the big arm chair and controls in the door etc weigh mine down!

But saying that, mine is more aero-dynamic. Also he loses a lot of power on his transmission tunnel since its got to go to 4 wheels, with mine it all goes straight to the back wheels and with the engine at the back less power is loss.

Could do with finding out the power at the wheels for both. I have driven his and been a passangener in both mine while he was driving and in his. It always feels faster when your not driving, but I swear it felt faster in mine! But thats probably cos i was more nervous with him driving my car!!! :pale:

Cheers.

But bear in mind a 4wd system will have pretty big tranny loses.

But I'd still go for the Scooby.

Doesnt a properly quick 0-60 dash in a 4wd car give the clutch extreme pain? Ive heard they have to launch at quick high revs to take advantage of all the traction.

You'll destroy him on the straight and on track. Check the "are evo drivers big heads" thread to get an education on why MR2s would beat a 300 BHP 4WD car with so many drivers aids it drives itself. So that 250 BHP Scoob has no chance.

Although I think some scoobs can control their centre diff to split power front/rear, so if you do get beat just go to a scooby forum and talk about how scoobs drive themselves and there is no skill in it.

What you mean in the same way you came onto an MR2 forum and stated that your car is better because it doesn't have traction control and for MK2 MR2's there is an option of traction control? In the same way you came onto an MR2 forum and stated that your car is better to drive?

Look to yourself before you start on everyone else Aidy.
Or better still, go back to the Evo forums and stay there.

Aw diddums, have you read any of my posts in the other threads? No, then you'ds see that I actually never said any of the above.

Besides its YOU who came onto our forum and slated the MR2s not us going onto the Evo forum

Cars tend to get heavier as the model progresses due to additional safety requirements that didn't exist with previous models. Extra bars, side protection, etc etc.

Sorry Dellams, this spilled over from the "Evo / Big heads" thread. I shan't post on this thread again. Just the original post by Aidy was a pathetic waste of space on this thread and I unfortunately rose to the bait.

As Skipp said really, there's so many versions of the Impreza its difficult to say.
Just because his car is more powerfull it wont necessarily be quicker, take 350Zs for example 290ish bhp but slower to 60 than any revision tubby.
Generally speaking Imprezas are impressive 0-60, with times ranging from the low 4s to the mid 5s depending on the model.

Only one way to find out for certain, race him!

has his scooby got 4 doors ? if so it's probably similar weight or heavier than your car. 250 hp isn't that much more than a rev 1 turbo is meant to push out.

only way to be sure, get yourselves to a drag strip and see what happens.
